JOHN P. CASLER KILLED,
STRUCK BY A TRAIN IN SIGHT
OF HIS WIPE.

John P. Casler, an aged farmer living
near Ocean port, was killed in sight of
his wife shortly before noon on Friday
by a train of the New York and Long
Branch railroad.
Mr. Casler was 74 years of age and
had been in ill-health for some time.
His house is about one hundred feet from
the railroad track, On Friday morning
he left his house and wandered over on
the railroad track. His wife became
alarmed at his absence and went to look
for him, She saw him on the track with
a train bearing down on him. Mrs.
Casler staited to bring her husband to a
place of safety but before she could get
to him the train struck him. Mr. Casler
threw his arms up in the air when he
was struck. His body was thrown thirty
feet by the collision and was terribly
mangled. He was instantly killed. '
The body was taken to his house and
the funeral was held on Monday afternoon
at two o'clock. The service waa
conducted by Rev. F. R. Harbaugh of
Red Bank, and the burial was in tho
Presbyterian church cemetery at Shrewsbury.
The pall-bearers were Harrison
White, Benjamin P. "Worthley, W. T.
Parker, Richard Parker, John Wainright
and Ennet Smith.
Mr. Casler was born in Momnouth
county in 1820 and had always lived in
the county. He was a son of the late
Mary and Peter Casler. About fifty
years ago lie married Miss Elizabeth Ituo
and six children were bom to them-,
four daughters and two sons. The
daughters are Mrs. Mary Brinker, Mrs.
Annie Longstreet, Mrs. Emma Pullen,
Mrs. Harriet Mac-Name, and the sons arq
Aaron T. and J, Hilton. He had seven-!
teen grandchildren, ,
Mr. Casler left an estate estimated to
be worth $10,000. By his will everything
is left to his wife during her lifetime
and at her death the property is to
be divided among the children. Mrs,
Casler is 72 years of age.
