John and Jacob Casler were brothers who migrated to Michigan in the late 1800s. I believe
they were both born in New York. All I know about John is that he had 2 sons: Otis b.1869
and Spurgin b.1876 (Spurgin had 2 daughters and 1 son).
Jacob was my great-Grandfather. According to his obit he was born in Sherman Co., NY
2Mar1843. He had 6 children; the first four born in Ilinois and the last two born in
Michigan.
John and Jacob lived in the vicinity of Eaton Rapids in Eaton County, Michigan. Jacob died
25Jun1891 and is buried in a family plot in Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Jacob's children were:Frank b.1868 d.1922, Robert b.1870 d.1930, Walter b.1872,
Gertrude b. 1874 d. 1963, Matilda Irena b. 1876 d.1952, and Clifford b.1877.
Matilda Irena was my paternal Grandmother. She always went by the name Irena. Gertrude and
Irena married brothers:
Henry Fitzgerald Long and Hugh Victor Long.
According to his obit, Jacob was director of Eaton Rapids Union Agricultural Society
(whatever that was) and "Enlisted in his country's service" in 1863 so I
suppose he was a civil war veteran.
I have never been able to verify the ancestory of John and Jacob. If you can shed any
light on that I would be forever grateful. - David R. Long
