I have made a major breakthrough on Jacob Martin Cashman. All the missing pieces of puzzle
are now fitting together very nicely. I am willing to share documentation that proves the
following:
1) Jacob Martin Cashman was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania to Johan Martin Kirschman,
an immigrant from Wurttemburg (Germany) who arrived with his father and family in 1752.
2) Jacob Martin Cashman moved with his father's family in 1776 to Washington County,
Maryland. His father (Martin Kirshman) and his brother George were in the Maryland militia
from 1776-1777. His father took the Oath of Alligence in 1778.
3) Jacob Martin Cashman (Jacob is not his real name) was really born: Johan Martin
Kirschman Jr. He went by Martin Kirshman in Maryland, but changed to Martin Cashman upon
moving to Kentucky. I have a copy of his father's will.
4) Washington County, Maryland is adjacent to Berkeley County, Virginia. The two counties
are separated by the Potomac River, which Martin Kirshman ferried acrss 556 prisoners of
war in 1781 during the final battle of the Rev War at Yorktown. He married Sophia Claycomb
from Berkeley County.
5) Years later in 1832 Martin Cashman witnessed the Rev. War service of his brother-in-law
Frederick Claycomb, who did his tour of duty during the Yorktown seige.
