WARREN, Ohio - Robert M. Cashman, 91, passed away peacefully Jan. 5, 2014.
Born Aug. 25, 1922, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Robert was the loving son of Maurice and Edith
(O'Connor) Cashman.
Bob was a 1940 graduate of Howland High School, Howland, Ohio.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob served his country during World War II, serving three
years in the South Pacific, as a member of the Headquarters Battery 383rd Anti-Aircraft
Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion and received a Bronze Star upon honorable discharge
for meritorious service to his country.
Before entering the Army, Bob began his early work career as a District Manager for the
Warren Tribune Chronicle.
After returning from the war in 1946, he started his career at Packard Electric and
received his Industrial Engineering degree from the General Motors Institute, now
Kettering University, in 1951.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Bob held several management positions at General Motors, including
Director of Production Control and Purchasing and Director of Quality Control.
In 1975, he was named Manufacturing Manager for all of General Motors Warren plants and
Director of all Warren Operations, a title in which he held until his retirement in 1980.
He was elected into the Packard Electric Excellence Hall of Fame in 2003.
Throughout his life, Bob dedicated his time and talents to a number of charitable
organizations. He was past president of the Catholic Charities Board of the Diocese of
Youngstown, past president of the Advisory Board of Catholic Social Services of Trumbull
County and also served as President on the Boards of the United Way of Trumbull County and
the Trumbull County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Bob was a long time Board member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation and long time
advisor to The Sisters of the Humility of Mary.
Robert was an active member and outstanding supporter of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Parish-St. James Church in Warren, serving as its financial director for many years. He
was also an active member of Ancient Order of Hibernians Sean McBride Division, the
Chamber of Commerce and the Warren Kiwanis Club.
An avid outdoors man, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and working at his lake in Pennsylvania
and his farm in Kinsman, Ohio.
Robert leaves behind his 11 nieces and nephews, who will always cherish the memory, advice
and guidance of their "Uncle Bob."
"Uncle Bob" was always there for his nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Besides his parents, Bob was a dedicated brother and was preceded in death by his three
sisters, Mrs. Paul (Joan) Miller, Mrs. Jim (Anna Mae) Dunphy and Miss Dorothy Cashman.
Calling hours for Bob will take place on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, with Fr.
James P. Walker officiating at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish - St. James Church, preceded
by closing prayers to be recited at 9:20 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Ohio. (Mahoning County)
