Hi guys,
I am pondering on the name Cashman and have a theory based on an American Cashman's
research. He found that his Cashman was actually derived from Germany in the early
1700's, 1709 to be precise when a religious group was exiled from Germany and sought
refuge through the Queen of England who settled them in Ireland and America in the hope of
countering the Catholic strength. She Anglicized their family names and as this American
found, his Cashman was actually Kirshenmann (cherry man) which could explain the derived
Kissane then Cashman. There is a name for this religious group but I'd have to look
back into my notes to find it and right now I do not have the time. Could explain their
family tradition in the brewery trade!
