I am a granddaughter of Joseph E. Cashion. Here is the history as I know it. Joseph
married Dianah Webb and they had one son, Hugh. Joseph was a civil engineer and wanted to
go west to work on building the railroad. Dianah refused to go west.
Joseph married Elsie Anshutz and they had eight children. John, Fannie, Charles, Joseph,
Mary Carolyn, Jane, Robert and Elsie. They lived in Butler PA.
I am the only child of Mary Carolyn.
In the late 1970s or early 1980s, Hugh strived to learn of any step siblings through
relatives in NC. He reached out to his step siblings and they agreed to meet. John,
Robert, Mary Carolyn and Fannie travelled and met Hugh. They were amazed at his
resemblance to their father, Joseph.
No doubt about who the father was! But Joseph never spoke of Dianah or Hugh. Learning of
a half-brother was shocking.
I was a teenaged girl at this time. I once drove Mary Carolyn (my Mom) and Aunt Fannie
(known as Peg) to Man, WV to visit Hugh and his lovely wife, Clarissa. I believe they
rented houses to coal miners. I was intrigued with this man who resembled my Gradfather.
For many years, I kept a written correspondence with Hugh and Clarissa. I was very fond
of them. They wrote of their children Conrad, June, Robert and Anita.
I hope this helps you.
