Fellow researchers,
I have heard that a few of you have had trouble with the site where we have posted the
information about the Cashion Project. Perhaps I made a typo when giving you the
information. Try Try
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~kwc/cashion .
If you still have difficulty, let Katherine or me know.
Update in resource tools status.
The census index is available to you as an attached file. You can request the files per
state. What states are you most interested in for census information? The census index I
have compiled is sorted by state, then by county, then by year and then by page number and
census roll identification. I can send these to you if you can handle an Excel spreadsheet
file. If you need the information in another format let me know and I will export it for
you in a more useful format. I will need to know the version of software you are using.
A companion resource I have created is a collection of census forms for each major census
in Excel spreadsheet format which can be filled in on your computer and then sent back to
us for inclusion in the transcribed database. We will endeavor to have actual census page
images for each of the pages containing a CASHEN/CASON, etc. entry. In this way, our
finished work product will offer not only one or more transcriptions of the information,
but the actual page, so that the researcher can refer directly to that source document.
If you are not comfortable working with a spreadsheet and would rather submit the
information to us on paper, we would like to have you use printed forms which contain the
same fields for data. Volunteers will then transcribe your information into the database.
We encourage your contributions, whatever their form.
I have also begun, and have made considerable progress compiling, an index
and collection of information about Civil War participants in the various CASON
lines. If you have names for me, I can make sure that you receive files with
those persons listed. You can then add information to what is there to make
a more complete record of your ancestor's service.
In many cases, I have information about POWs, campaigns, transfers, promotions, and more.
The sources for this database are muster rolls, adjutant general reports, state archives,
local histories and pension records.
These files are not yet downloadable from the site, but I will be happy to send them to
you as attachments.
Please send me information about marriages, births, deaths. Those compilations will be
started soon, unless I have a volunteer who would like to concentrate on one of these
areas.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Connie
