Hi All,
I was researching my husband's family of JOHNSON and located this bit of info
(not connected to our lines):
Chapman Johnson enlisted in the 2nd Cavalry, Confederate Army, (Texas State
Troops) July 22, 1862 at Farmington, Texas for a period of six months, and at
first was a Corporal, but later became a 4th Sergeant in Company A. Ten acres
of this land was sold on 6 Feb 1862 for $100 to J. N. Froman. An additional 40
acres was sold on 6 Feb 1862 for $400 to Elijah G. Chiles.
While in Texas, four sons were born there, Walford (He also may have been
known by the name of Welford or Willie) , Samuel, George and Allen Franklin
Johnson (Also known as Dick).
On 11 April 1866, 40 acres were sold to T. J. Cashion and Calvin Williams for
four yoke of cattle; 30 acres were sold to Reuben Martin for four yoke of
cattle and 20 acres were sold to Joshua West for two yoke of cattle. The family
returned to Missouri after the Civil War, leaving behind the oldest child,
Martha, who married, and stayed in Texas. Little is known of her as contact was
lost with her after the family returned to Missouri.
