When my family lived in East TN, one of the men who worked for my dad
(in construction) was nicknamed "Pig" because his last name was
Shropshire, which is the name of a famous breed of porkers.
Just thought I'd throw that out there, although I don't know if it
will help with your search at all. The origins of nicknames can be
really difficult to pin down, especially when they're not the usual
"Sally for Sarah" or "Jack for John" kinds of things.
