There are those of us that would give our right arm to see that Bible!
Where do you live and we'll come help you look for it!!!!!!
Seriously -- when you find it please post it to this list as soon as you
can!
Thanks,
Colleen
By the way -- we are all here to help one another, after all -- we are all
related!
Colleen, pleasse do continue if you don't mind the work. None of it means a
lot
to my research right now, but I am keeping it. Who know when and where my
Cashion will connect. Like the proverbial bread cast upon the waters, I hope
you get some good feed back for your efforts.
With as many as we have on this list there must be some good coming from
your efforts.
I also have a Cashion in my line.
My great grandfather, Hugh McFale Sadler married Jane Caroline Cashion on
March 3, 1846, in Perry Co., MO. She was born on March 20, 1820, in Lincoln
Co., NC. Her father was John Beal Cashion, born abt 1780 in Chesterfield Co.,
VA. He married Dorothy (Dolly) Tucker in Charlotte, NC, July 1, 1801. John
died January 5, 1864, in Perry Co., MO.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Joe Sadler, Seattle, WA.
Thanks Laura!
I descend from David CASHION. He settled in Weakley County, Tennessee in the
1830's. His daughter Mary Ann (Polly) CASHION CAMPBELL was my
great,great,great,great grandmother.
We used to live in Graves County, Kentucky! My oldest daughter went to
college at Murray State University!
All of this occurred before I discovered my roots in the area. Although I
now live in Wilson County, Tennessee, I haven't been able to get to Weakley
County. Maybe this summer!

I found the article below at the Weakly County webpage. Its under the
Goodspeed Index. Thought it might be of interest.
Laura
P. A. CASHON, M. D., was born in Weakley County, Tenn., March 4, 1839, one
of six children, three of whom were sons, the other two being W. B. (a
farmer of Weakley County) and J. F. (a physician of Martin). Their parents
were Andrew J. and Frances (Winstead) Cashon, who were born in Virginia and
Tennessee, in 1815 and 1818, respectively. The father came to Tennessee with
his parents, when about ten years of age and after residing in Sumner County
two years, moved to Weakley County, being among the early settlers. He
farmed, and married about 1836, and is yet residing in Weakley County. His
father died in 1875, at the ripe old age of ninety-one years. Our subject's
mother's death occurred in 1880. P. A. Cashon, our subject, was educated at
Dukedom Academy, and entered the teacher's profession, and after one session
entered the office of Dr. J. V. Freeman, and spent two years reading
medicine. He then took two courses of lectures at the Nashville University,
and in 1863-64 took a course of lectures in the Louisville (Ky) University,
and graduated from that institution in the spring of the latter year. In
2865 he entered the army as assistant surgeon of the Sixth Tennessee
Cavalry. After the war he purchased a farm near Dresden, where he remained
until December, 1882. He then disposed of his farm and came to Martin, and
he and Dr. Lawler entered into partnership, and also engaged in the drug
business, their stock amounting to $3,500. Dr. Cashon has met with
flattering success in the practice of his profession, and is doing well,
financially. He is a Republican, and cast his first presidential vote for
John Bell. He also belongs to the Masonic fraternity. February, 1866, Dr.
Cashon married Miss Desda J. Stowe, daughter of W. A. and Susan Stowe. Mrs.
Cashon was born in Weakley County, in 1840, and is the mother of two
children: Willie Lee and John Bell. Both the Doctor and his wife are members
of the Presbyterian Church.
Kathy,
Where are you located and what area are your Cashions from. From the stories
I've heard my husbands line were ornery also. I'm not sure how mean but sure
bullheaded.
Laura
I do not know the first thing about tracing the roots for the Cashions, but I sure am interested in all of this. I remember my Daddy talking about a Polly Cashion, but I do not know anymore than that. See, my Daddy was 44 when I was born, so I was sort of like an only child out of 5 others. Their first child, Billy, drown when he was 12. I do know that there was a Howard Cashion, Jay Cashion, Avery Cashion, Jack Cashion, Henry C. Cahion, Henry B. Cashion, Carrie Cashion, Hattie Cashion Compton, Eula Cashion Smith......and more, I just cannot remember names. This coming Saturday is a very sad time for me, Daddy would have turned 88. Along with Mothers Day being a hard time for me, too. Since Daddy left me in August and Mama left in December life has been very tough. Any info you have I would greatly appreciate receiving. I recently moved and have so much to unpack, but I know that I was given a Bible that dates back to the 1800's. It, of course, belonged to the Cashions. When I can find it, I will check for vital info and send on. Kathy Cashion Burdette

From the information I have gained from Valette, my husband descends from
David twice. And I have a Brann/Cashon marriage three generations in a row.
How's that for confused. We grew up and lived in Graves Co. until 1985 when
we moved away due to job. We are now in Northern California. I'm going to
Mayfield for a three week visit. We were in the Chicago area until Jan of
this year and I was able to go to Ky about once a month. As I gather info I
will post it. I have some copies from the courthouse in Dresden but can't
find which box they are in. The movers didn't label very well. I'm
determined and will locate it or go get more during my visit. Do you know
who Clessie and Jessie Cashon were? That's one of the markers at Good
Springs.
More later, must run

HI Valette - Sorry I am not related to Elzy Cashon. But I am aware of the
Cashin families in Augusta GA. Although the names are spelled the same, we
have never found a connection between the early Cashins and our ancestor
John Joseph Cashin, born in Tipperary, who with his wife settled in Augusta
just before te War between the States. The recent message posted about the
death of Edward Cashin SR gives some members of this family.

Please let me know if you are getting anything out of these postings! If

North Carolina Notes:
Jobez(Joby, etc.) CASHION, son of Thomas CASHION Sr., 1st Patsy (Martha)
Powers August 29, 1810, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
Married 2nd Amelia McLeary September 5, 1846, in Mecklenburg County.
Have you seen the tombstone records from Gaston and Catawba County, North
Carolina?
Joseph Albert CASHION - died 1901. Buried McCadenville, NC.
Married Martha Harrett McKnight
Their son, Joseph Wainwright CASHION was born 1888 and died April 1970 in
Shelby County. Married twice, second time to Lois Wright. Lois Wright
CASHION told me, Mrs. Curran CASHION, that Joseph Albert CASHION had a half
sister named Maggie Brown.
Ms. CASHION also mentions a "CASHION Convention" held around the Southeast
every year. Does anyone know about this?
More notes:
Pleasant CASHION was in the War of 1812 and was born in Chesterfield County,
Virginia in 1792. He was the son of David CASHION and his first wife Martha
Mann(?). He died April 23, 1872, in Weakley County, Tennessee. He married
Cynthia ALMERRY - ALMERY, probably in Iredell County, NC.
Elzey CASHION was born in Iredell Co. NC in 1810 and was the oldest son of
David CASHION and his first wife. He married Mrs. Rebecca GRACEY GRAY, widow
of Robert GRAY.
An old typewritten paper says:
Notation under picture of burning two-story house:
Frame of Flames . . Only the skeleton of a house at Hamilton remained when
this picture was taken early Sunday morning. This was the old CASHION house
occupied by Coster O. Bostick and family.
Fire Destroys Two Hamilton Homes on the Same Night by Bill Mobley -
Post-Herald writer.
Hamilton. March 5, 1961, Two houses here were burned by flames at midnight
Saturday and early this morning.
The first to burn was the old CASHION house occupied by Mrs. Coster O.
Bostick and family. It was on Highway 78 West on the southside of town.. . .
. The big frame house burned to the ground in about 10 minutes. It was
constructed of "heart pine" lumber, residents said, and was know as the old
CASHION place. . . . The two story 11 room house was a landmark of Hamilton.
World War I Veterans who attended a state secondary agricultural school used
it as a dormitory years ago.
(No clue in the article as to where Hamilton is - no state mentioned.)

Colleen,
Please keep going. I find these very interesting. Especially the obits. I'm
not morbid but find info from the names of the survivors. I'm trying to
identify all the stones at Good Springs. The posting of Bert got another
one. And I didn't know of any Cashons around Kirksey. I'll check it out
while I'm there. Kirksey isn't far from Dukedom, on Ky side near Murray.
Thanks,
Laura
Bert CASHON
Funeral services for Bert CASHON, 79 year old Dukedom resident who died in
the Memphis Veterans Hospital Saturday, were held Monday, August 2, at the
Jackson Funeral Home in Dukedom.
CASHON, born in Weakley County on October 17, 1892, had made his home at the
Ave Maria Nursing Home, Incorporated, of Memphis for the last few years.
He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I.
CASHON's survivors include two half-sisters, Mrs. Brooklyn Stone and Mrs.
Carl Foster, both residing near Dukedom; and four half-brothers, Jack CASHON
of Dresden, Roy CASHON of Waxahachie, Teas, John CASHON of Baltimore and
Wayne CASHON of Kirksey, Kentucky.
Rev. Henry Davis officiated at the funeral and the interment was in Good
Springs Cemetery.
This was published on August 5, 1971, in the Fulton County News of Fulton, KY.
From Colleen Taylor
Ed, you don't happen to be descended from Elzy Cashon do you? He was a
son of David Cashon born about 1776-80 in Chesterfield or Amelia County.
Moved to North Carolina with his family about 1790 and married Rebecca
Gracey Gray (widow of Robert Gray) about 1801 in Iredell County, NC.
They remained in Iredell until about 1815 (Rebecca may have died about
this time) then Elzy was in Upton County, Georgia in the 1830 and 1840
census. He was probably still living in 1853 since he wa slisted among
the living children in David's widows pension application. The only two
children I know Elzy and Rebecca had were Lodick (or variation of
spelling) Rudd Cashon and David Cashon. However the 1830 and 1840 census
of Upton county show him with younger children in his household so I
don't know if he remarried or had a daughter whose husband may have died.
I think that some of Burrell's and Thomas' descendants went south to
South Carolina and Georgia also and I don't have that information. I
would really like to have your line in my files and be happy to share
anything I might have.
There was also a Cashin family which arrived in Augusta, Ga from Ireland
about 1820 (this is from the L. Andrea papers), very prominent but
apparently not connected to the Cashon line.
