It appears that the name has evolved from several different countries and roots. The
federal census shows the roots of NY & PA Cashdollars as from Ireland and Germany.
However, the oldest family stories my branch of Cashdollars relate is that we (our NC
& TN clan) came to America from Scotland and to Scotland from England. I have found
no evidence of connections between the PA/NY & the NC/TN clans but some stories
relate a possible Connecticut connection.
Anyone have any evidence of connections between the northern NY/PA Cashdollars and the
southern NC/TN clan?
Our southern clan's tradition is that Cash is an English variant of Cass. They are
said to have settled around Dollar in Clackmannan Scotland and the Cash Dollar name was
later shortened to Cashdollar.
