Thank you Peggy ... yes ... this is Ocee / Ocy / Ocea Logsdon who marries Aquilla Cashatt
/ Cushatt. They live for a time in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. And, you are correct
... .they are part of the Kershatt / Cushatt / Cashatt clan that is later found in Shelby
County, Alabama. This Ocee is related to my Ocee via a common Logsdon connection in Hart
County, KY. Do you have more on Aquilla's line? I'm assuming that Ocee must
be a family name or possibly a nickname. Is your Cashatt line the same as the one found
in Hart KY?

I'm just checking in to see if anyone has any record of individuals with
the first name of "Ocee" or "Ocea" or anything even close to that in
their
files. We are looking for any clues. Here's what we think we know. My
primary research focus at the moment is on the surname SMELSER and ties to
Cushatt / Coshatt / Cashett .... etc. Any clues would be appreciated.
1. A family Bible in the Reames family (Kentucky) lists an "Ocee KERSHAT
who married a Smelser" .... later we find other family (tied to "Ocee
Kershatt") using the spelling of Cashett and Cushatt in both Iowa and
Alabama. And ... we find an Ocee Logsdon in the family ... so the first
name was carry on.
2. We have other known French Huguneot connections in a variety of places
including TN, SW VA, NC, MD which would be consistent with ties to
Cashatt.
3. We have NC ties in Orange County (Cane Creek area) and elsewhere.
4. We also see the possibility that the name KERSHATT might be a
derivative of the surname KIRSCHHOCK ... but that's another story.
