Hello. I'm new to the list. I'm hoping someone can help me remove a
"sort-of" brick wall. Elijah Cash was my g-g-g-grandfather (Elijah-Caroline
Cash-Alice Lee Alexander-Lawsie Leroy Nash-my father-me). Elijah was born in NC.
I suspect Elijah was a son of Peter and Sarah (Smith) Cash Sr. Most researchers seem to
disagree.
However, a descendant of Isham Cash, son of William & Lucy Lanier Cash, says that
Elijah was Isham's uncle (
http://www.cashfamily.com/meddley.htm). Isham's father,
William, was a son of Peter and Sarah. He says that Isham moved from Granville Co, NC, in
1845, to Henry Co, TN, to be near his uncle Elijah and stayed there until 1851 at which
time Isham moved to AR. In the 1850 census, both men are in Henry Co--Elijah in the 10th
district and Isahm in the 5th district (on an 1880 map, the 10th and 5th districts border
each other).
The problem is this. There is no indication at the web site as to the source of the
information on Elijah, and I have not been able to find any other supporting documentation
other than the 1830 census. In 1830, an Elijah Cash was living in Granville, NC, nearby
to other Cashes, including Peter Sr.
If anyone can provide a primary source for Meddley's information or has information on
any other source that would help me with this brick wall, I would very much appreciate it!
Thanks. Sylvia
