Looking for information on John KASH who was born abt. 1748 and
married Rachel
MCALLISTER before 1772. They are the father of James KASH Sr. who
married
Phoebe LACY Greenbrier, VA.
John Cash is my 7th great grandfather! Supposedly the spelling of Kash
with a K
started with his two sons James and Caleb. The story I've heard is that
a German
clerk misspelled Cash with a 'K' and it stuck. James
(2/5/1772-3/7/1851) was the
first sheriff of Morgan Co. KY. I have been to his grave site in
Holderby Graveyard
in present day Wolfe Co. An excellent reference on the early Kash's in
KY is
"Early and Modern History of Wolfe County" compiled by the Wolfe County
Women's Club, Campton, KY.
I have John as being born in 1726 in Edinburgh, Scotland and died in
1780 in
Augusta Co., VA. This part of my research is very sketchy. All of my
information on John is second hand from a Mrs. Peggy Bell who lives in
CA.
I have been unable to verify it.
In addition to their sons James and Caleb, John and Rachel also had a
daughter,
Mary.
