Without the diligent, extensive information collecting and record preparation
of Vivian Cash Miller (Hillsboro, Illinois), our information would not have
been put together as it is now. The recorded items would have been there,
documentation would have been found (eventually). But - it could have taken years
and the rich, family history would not have been uncovered. It is to Mrs.
Miller (daughter of Edward and Bessie Curry Cash) and her late husband (as well as
to numerous family members, many mentioned in her records) that many Cash
descendants can be grateful. Thank you, Vivian -- family history might very
possibly have been lost forever without your dedication! (NOTE: The information in
this database is intended to share our family history with those members
researching their genealogy. The information taken from THE FAMILY OF WARREN CASH
AND ALLIED LINES, 1995, may NOT be printed for resale without written permission

The CASH Family . . . . . from Vivian Cash Miller
The first known CASH in America was a William Cash from Scotland, a mariner
who settled in Salem, Massachusetts about 1645. On one of his return voyages
from England/Scotland on his brigantine "The Good Intent", he brought with him a
favorite nephew, son of his brother, who was also named William Cash, born in
Scotland circa 1653. At his uncle's urging, this younger William Cash went
down into Virginia, settling in Westmoreland County about 1673. This is the
William Cash we are descended from.
WILLIAM CASH, the nephew (a.k.a. The Immigrant), came to Tidewater, Virginia
about 1673 and was the first CASH to settle in that colony.
Along with all our CASH relatives, there is one who is known throughout the
country music industry -- JOHNNY CASH, the "Man in Black". His relationship to
our line was told in his autobiography, "The Man in Black", published in 1975.
He is descended from William Cash, the Scottish Immigrant, just as we are.
William came to Westmoreland Co, Virginia circa 1673. He also lived in Amherst
and Bedford Counties in Virginia for 100 years. A descendant, Moses Cash, moved
to Henry County, Virginia in 1810 and was one of the first settlers there.
The old Cash homestead was still seen there in 1995, although it was in ruins.
REUBEN CASH was the son of Moses Cash. Following the burning of Atlanta and the
pillage and sacking of the plantations in that area, Reuben put his family in
an ox-drawn wagon and in 1866 homesteaded in Arkansas. Reuben and his wife
had a good size family, but only one son, WILLIAM HENRY CASH became a Baptist
minister and married Rebecca. He was named for William Cash and Henry Co.,
Virginia. William and Rebecca were parents of 12 children. Their youngest son, RAY
CASH, was the father of Johnny. Other siblings were Reba, and Jack. In
interviews, Johnny tells that his family were share-croppers and he spent much of his
early life near Dyess, Arkansas. He picked cotton along with the rest of them.
