Tim,
Thanks for the great family anecdotes! Caseys live interesting lives for
sure; I think we owe a lot to Irish heritage.
I am not originally from San Angelo; we settled here in January 1980 and
have been digging in since then. Originally, I am from Gallipolis, Ohio
with ancestors being from Mason County, WV (VA previous to 1863). I left
Ohio in 1960 and spent just over 22 years as an Air Force communications
analyst before retiring here in San Angelo. For the last 20 years I worked
Civil Service at Goodfellow AFB located here. I retired again last year and
have been gradually getting back into researching the family. Really hoping
for some breakthroughs with this DNA project.

My Father and grandfather both died in San Angelo TX. My grandfather was
married a few times, but my father died there in 1976 we buried him back in
Union Co IL where he was born. I have two aunts who live there they were my
dad's half sisters I can only remember them as I was not around them much as
a kid , my grandfather Elvis Ray Casey died there in 1972 I think. Funny
story on him when I was maybe 4 , we had a outhouse where we lived in the
country, he kept a bottle of whiskey in there. Some how I locked him in
there , he couldn't get out, my dad asked my mom if she had seen him , she
said no, he must have went to town. Dad found him later, my mom said , yep
he was going to give you a whipping you would remember , but dad wouldn't
let him do it. That was almost as bad as me catching the cornfield on fire.
That's another story. (grin) That is the last I remember seeing my
grandfather Casey in 1964. I was born in 1959.
My dad liked his spirits too, he came home one day, mom said who does he
have in the car with him , your grandpa , nope mom , he has a goat in the
front seat. Mom just shook her head, well we kept the goat , he ate all of
mom's flowers and roses, until he ate dad's clothes off the clothes line,
mom said later , I knew when he ate something of your dad's he would go.
sure enough he did. End of Goat.
My dad was a correctional officer at Menard Penetitary in Chester IL . We
lived near the penetitiary , immates would work around our house etc doing
what they did on the penetinitary grounds, well he bought me a pony , of
course pony wouldn't let you ride him, so one day , I said , I am going to
ride you, I didn't he ran off, he decided to go up to the psycho part of the
prison , where they kept the criminals that were insane. I was never to go
that far, decision had to be made at 8 years old , get the pony back where
he was, or get a spanking, I preferred my first thought. My mom seen my
problem, she went and got the pony. But she told dad it got loose and the
boys couldn't ride it , so my mom improved my circumstances and I got a
go-kart.
When you wrote you lived in San Angelo it made me think of my Dad and
Grandfather they had lived there.
