Since there are more than one definition of the Casey Coat of Arms I will
transcribe the following :
The Casey Coat of Arms from the mauscript of Casey and Allied Families by
Walter E. Casey.
Casey is an Irish name and in Gaelic it is "O" Cathasaigh" , which has
been anglicised- O'Casey and finally Casey.
The Casey family is descended from Milesius , King of Spain, through the
line of Hebner . The founder of the family was Kiann, son of Olliol Ollum,
King of Munster, A.D. 177, and Sabia , daughter of Con of the Hundred
Battles, King of Ireland. A. D. 148, thus uniting the blood of Heber and
Heremon in this family. The ancient name was "Cathasach" which means
"Vigilent".
This sept held possession in the present Counties of Cork, Kerry, Clare,
and Tipperary. The Caseys were also Chiefs of Rathconan in the Barony of
Pubblebrien, in the County of Limmerk. In the County of Cork they were
Chiefs of a territory near Mitchelstown. A branch of this family of the race
or Ir, Fifth son Milesius , and founded by Laiosach Kean More of the Clanna
Rory tribe, were Chiefs of Saithne, no Sonagh, in Westmeath, where they had
been settled since the third century. Their lands were seized by Hugh de
Lacy after the Anglo Norman invasion. Later he sold them to the Tuite
Family.
Heraldist have described the Crest or Coat of Arms of the old Irish
Casey thus "Arms or a Chevron between three Falcons heads, Gules Crest and a
hand fessaways issuing from a cloud , lifting a Garb". One of the offshoots
of the stock had the Arms modified thus " Azure, a chevron, Argent between
three eagles heads. The Motto Per Varios Casus" is translated "Through Many
Difficulties. Many of the family were eminent ecclasiasstics, and others
distinguished for their leaning..
from B. H. Casey of TX a Jesse Casey descendant
still living to I might add
The Irish surname Casey is originally derived from O' Casey, or occasionally
Mac Casey. both of which however still survive today in thier orginal form.
The name is the modern anglicized form of the Old Gailec Irish surname O
Cathasigh.. This name is palronymic in origin , being derived from the first
name of a Father or Ancestor. In this case, the name simply denotes "the
descendant of ( the old Irish prefix "O") Cathasach", from the ancient
Gaelic personal name meaning "watchful"
In medivel Ireland there were six distinct and unrelated septs of O
Cathasaigh, the most prominent of which were the lords of the Suailhni
whose territory lay in the modern county of Dublin).and the erenaghs of
Fermanaglay lords whose families held church lands and bibles from
generation to generation. Further evidence (the 1659 census ) suggests that
Caseys or as they were then called Cahassys , were also located in Limerick
and in the south western part of Waterford, where there is still to be seen
today and archaelogical remains known as Casey Lios. Today with the
exception of Ulster, the name is widely distriuted in all the provinces,
especilly in south west muster.
Argnt a chevron between three eagles heads erased gules Crest issuing from a
cloud a hand in fess holding a garb all proper. Motto Per Various Casus
meaning By various fortunes.
You wil notice that each family has differnt info I am no Heraldist but
