Rita, I don't recall that this has been mentioned on the Casey list
(probably a search of the List archives would remind us), but there are
several surname lists and groups who are currently engaged in genetic
testing projects. From what I've read, it requires concerted effort for
a group to gather, organize and report the complex results in an
organized fashion and requires a baseline of proven male (Casey)
lineages to compare against. Someone needs to be the leader/organizer in
a group project. For more reading and to see how others have approached
this, you might check the Surname category on the Cyndi's List site and
drill down further--several projects have websites with links to more
detailed information. There are several commercial enterprises doing
genetic research, but I've heard that the "Family Tree DNA" company is
good. Their web site link:
familytreedna.com
Here's the group of surnames mentioned in Cyndi's List:

Also, a general Rootsweb mailing list search could probably pinpoint
several lists where their genetic research efforts are being discussed.
One of them I belong to is conducting a project now but so far there are
relatively few participants.

Subject: [CASEY-L] Determining Casey roots another way
With respect to unknown links to Abner Casey (and others), has there
been
any discussion of getting genetic testing of Casey men currently alive
who
represent different Casey lines to determine whether they are in fact
likely
to descend from the same person? I have only been following the
discussion
list for less than a year, so I apologize if this idea has been
mentioned
previously and rejected.
