Joyce,
Do you know anything about the Stephen Casey who is listed on the 1785
Wilkes Co., GA Tax List with Daniel Casey? I am trying to back my Jesse Casey out
of Tennessee into Georgia (He was in Georiga in 1797 and before and in TN by
1804). There was a Jesse Casey on the 1799 Jackson Co., GA Tax List and there
are several other references in other counties to a Jesse Casey. In 1798
there is a Stephen Casey with wife Nancy (executed a deed) in Franklin Co., GA
and wonder if this is the Stephen who was in Wilkes Co. in 1785. I am
interested in Franklin County in connection with Jesse Casey because after moving to
Roane Co., TN he was sued by someone in Franklin Co., GA. I am interested in
Stephen Casey in connection with Jesse Casey because Jesse E. Casey, son of
Jesse, named his first son Stephen. As you can see I'm grasping at straws.
Georgia has been a real stumbling block for me in my Casey research. After all
these years I have many bits and pieces of info but none of them have led
anywhere. Any info you can share about Stephen would be much appreciated.
Vonda

It's always fascinated me that Wiley Lafayette Casey, a great-grandson of my
earliest-known ancestor Daniel Casey, was an administrator of the estate of
this Willis P. Casey. Other than that, I've found no connection between
Daniel and those commonly called the "Spartanburg Caseys." My Caseys lived
in Georgia early on, fairly close to the SC border in NE Georgia
(Wilkes/Elbert and possibly Lincoln Co's.) This Wiley L. Casey b 1826 was a
Baptist minister so maybe he was asked to be a co-administrator because of
that role and not necessarily that he was related. I suppose every Casey in
the south was not necessarily blood kin to other Caseys! But it surely has
kept me going for quite a while, wondering about why he would've been an
estate administrator for Willis P.
