From a book I found at the Clayton Library in Houston, TX:
"Notes & Comments on Casey & Allied Families"
Compiled & Edited by Walter Eric Casey - Houston, TX 1979
ABNER CASEY (1)
AbnerCasey, whose parents are not known, was born about 1700 in County Tyrone in
North Ireland and came to America in 1726 with his younger brother, Peter. They
landed in Baltimore, Maryland and lived in the Baltimore area a few years.
Justbefore or soon after coming to America Abner Casey married Harriet Green, a woman
of Welsh descent, and to this union 9 children were born, viz;
Jesse (1726 )
John (17271816)
Benjamin (17311779)
James (1733- )
Randolph (17371813)
Levi (17491807)
Christopher (1754-1840)
William (17591843)
Nancy ?
Verylittle has been found in the records relating to the daughter, however, many
researchers agree that she grew to maturity and married Phillip Trapnal.
Afterliving a few years in the Baltimore area Abner and his family moved to Southwest
Virginia and settled on the James River where they resided
a few years then moved to the Roanoke River Valley near where Roanoke, Virginia
is now located.
It is not known when Abner and his forefathers became Protestants but since they did not
settle in a Catholic community it is believed that the family was Protestant before
coming to America. The names given to the children also indicate they were not
Catholic.
When Abner and his family lived in the Roanoke River Valley of Virginia there was an
abundance of fish and wild game. They lived in the Valley until about 1743 when he
and his family and other families of the community migrated to the western part of
South Carolina and settled in Old District 96 in what now ilewberry and Spartanburg
Counties. It is believed that Abner and his wife died and were buried in Newberry
County, South Carolina.
Existing records are very scarce and there is some controversy regarding the sons of
Abner and Harriet Casey. In fact, authentic records relating to the family are very
hard to come by. Some researchers think Abner was married twice and that Harriet
Green was not the mother of all his children but this writer has found nothing to
back
up this claim.
PETER CASEY (2)
PeterCasey, a younger brother of Abner Casey, was born about 1715 in County Tyrone in
North Ireland and came to America with Abner in 1726. They docked in Baltimore,
Maryland and lived in the Baltimore area a few years.
Peter left Baltimore during the 1730 a and settled on the south fork of the Potomac
River in what is now Hampshire County, West Virginia near where Moorefield is now
located. He was a well known Indian fighter, a slave owner and was quite well to
do.
>I have several more pages on this line for those interested. But
will take a couple of
days for me to get a little better organized.
I also found some more things on Micajah (my line)---then there is a Christopher
and an Aaron. Unless there are people who complain they have already seen this
stuff, I will just put it out, as I have the time. Bev
