Hello List:
I have a real stonewall with my GGrandmother because of so little
information. Maybe someone can help.
Her name is: Emma Elizabeth Casey. On some census and other records, her
first name was shown as Ellitia. On others, it was Emily. Emma was likely
an abbreviated form for Emily.
On all Census reports, she shows that she was born in Georgia and on all
census reports reflects her parents were both born in Georgia. Her husband
(Richard Wiley Collum) was born in 1869. On census taken just after they
were married, her age was reported to be 1 year older than her husband, but
in later years, it was reported she was 3 or 4 years older. So, she was
probably born between 1865 and 1868.
Emma was reported to be Full Blood Cherokee Indian. I have pictures of her
when she was 60 to 70 years old and her Indian ancestry is apparent. My
Father (her Grandson) reported that she often wore typical Indian attire
when she was some younger. I have not been able to locate any records in
the Cherokee Nation, but since she was not part of the forced move of the
Cherokee from Georgia to Oklahoma, Indian records are somewhat doubtful.
Any help would be appreciated.
