Good Morning List,
I need help or suggestions please. A distant relative assembled a history of our family
many years ago. He did a tremendous job considering the tools available then. However, I
have been working back and trying to document and source the material he has presented for
consideration.
Understandably, I have found a discrepancy.
I am stuck on Charles Robert Casey b. 1861 d. May 23, 1895 married to Tobitha Croslow in
Indiana. Charles Robert Casey died in Freetown, Jackson County, Indiana. I have been
able to follow Tobitha in census records she seems to have moved to Knox County shortly
after the death of her husband.
Children:
James Elmer b. May 3, 1880 d. July 7, 1948 m. Maude Jane Fitzpatrick
William Joseph b.. October 9, 1882 August 29, 1883
Charles Claude b. b. March 19, 1884 d. February 2, 1952
Etta May b. January 3, 1886 d. November 13, 1951 m. Roy McKee
Albert Roy b. August 16, 1887 d. April 16, 1906
Effie Isella b. October 6, 1889 d. March 6, 1966 m Ross Seasley Effie is a twin to
Efford Carlton b. October 6, 1889 d. December 23, 1957 m Pearl Matilda Faught
Roscoe Vernon b. 25 April 1892 d. April 6, 1894
In the 1930 census James Elmer Casey's father Charles Robert Casey's father is
born in Ohio. This is also indicated on a funeral home death notice in 1948. I have no
idea where to start looking in Ohio.
Any suggestions?
Brenda

I have been reading the list for several weeks just trying to get a handle
on this genealogy stuff. I am the son of Walter Eugene Casey of Sasakwa, OK,
who was the son of Charles Casey from Arkansas, who was the son of a John
Casey perhaps from Missouri. On my grandfather's death certificate, my
grandmother stated she thought he was from Dover, AR but I can find no
records so far. Charles Casey had a brother, Walter E. Casey who lived and
died in Wewoka OK, a sister in Holdenville OK and a sister in California. I
am interested in info on John Casey. The perhaps from Missouri shows up in
an OK census record from 1920?.
I do know that my dad went to AR and met some relatives in the early 1970s
but he died in 1980 before I had a chance to talk to him about it. Then my
mom died in 1983. I got interested in genealogy about seven years to late.

Hi,
I am looking for ANY info re the following lineage. Of course my primary
interest is ANY source/proof from ANYONE.
Susanah CASEY b: abt 1820/1821, Roane County, Tenn - per census records.
married D. Edmond DOTSON abt Feb 1840 in McMinn County, Tenn - per
marriage records.
Susanah (CASEY) DOTSON is buried in the Lone Hill Cemetery, located in
Limestone Valley, Newton County, Arkansas.
My interest includes any census records. At the time I was researching
marriage records I also had access to census records. However, my primary
interest was elsewhere at the time. Now I don't have access to census
records.
D. Edmond DOTSON, husband of Susanah CASEY.
I have the following info re this DOTSON - but no records to back it up,
except the marriage info of Susanah and Edmond.
I received the other DOTSON/DODSON info from someone else and don't
believe I received any source/proof. (One of the drawbacks of exchanging
info via e-mail. No copies of source gets mailed.)
Somewhere I have Edmond DOTSON listed as a General. Unfortunately I
neglected to put that info in my on-line notes and my hard-copy records
are not available at this time. I don't know from which war. If it was
the Civil War I don't know if he was blue or grey. Does anyone else know?
brother to Archibald DOTSON B: 1802, married to Catherine BOWEN (b: abt
1839).
(If the info I was given re the liaison between Archibald and Catherine,
my GUESS is that Catherine BOWEN was probably not the first wife of
Archibald DOTSON. There is too much of an age difference.)
Both Edmond and Archibald are supposed to be sons of William Abraham
DOTSON.
I am primary interested in ANYTHING re Susanah (CASEY) DOTSON and her
family. I am, of course, interested in the DOTSON/DODSON line because of
the marriage into that line.
Hope this msg makes sense. Also hope someone has something to share.
Thank you.

The following information was found in the McMinn County Tennessee court
records:
Grant Book "C" page 94
"William Casey, John Casey, James Casey, Nancy- wife of Benjamin Casey,
George Watson, Eliza Casey, Lariat Casey - wife of Ruse Sterling Casey, Sam
Casey and Elizabeth Casey, widow of James Casey deceased, her dower.
William, John, James, Nancy - wife of Benjamin McKinsey, Eliza - wife of
George Watson, Sarah - wife of Ruse Sterling, Samuel and Elizabeth Casey.
Lewis {Elizabeth ?} , widow of James Casey, deceased, her dower ." Grant
issued February 3, 1839 on Act of General Assembly of October 25, 1831,
Chapter 27, to heirs of James Casey deceased.

Question: Does anyone know where this Casey family fits in? Could he be a
brother to Ambler, John & Jesse --sons of Jesse E. Casey Sr. bc1768?

Randall,
I do not find a date of birth for the Jesse Casey who received the land grant
in 1809. He also entered land on Caney Creek in Roane Co., TN in 1807 and was
listed on the Roane Co., Tax List in 1808. Do you have documentation for the
1768 date of birth? Also I do not find this Jesse with a middle initial E.
The notes I have for Grant #424 for 53 acres indicate the name as Jesse Casey
- not Jesse E. Jesse Casey is all over the Roane County court records and I
was unable to find him with a middle initial in any of those records. I was
specifically looking for that when I was in East Tennessee. The first Jesse
E. Casey I find is the one who married Patsy Coe in 1817 in Roane Co. I would
dearly love to find a reference to a Jesse E. Casey in Tennessee before 1817
and if you have found one please share!
I believe the source you mention (winter 1979 - South Carolina Magazine of
Ancestral Research) for Ambler, Jesse E. and John A.Casey being the sons of
Jesse Casey was a query asking for information to help confirm or disprove
the relationships No evidence was presented that proved the relationships.
There are several researchers trying to prove Ambler and Jesse E. were
brothers and that they were the sons of the Jesse Casey who was in Roane Co.,
TN from at least 1807 (and probably as early as 1803). Be happy to exchange
info if you are interested.

Sounds good, Tim.
I have a lot of CASEY in my computer, but when I
look to see what sources I have, it is mostly someone's
name and an email address. I have no idea what is
valid and what is not.
If your web page can help separate what is valid from
what is speculation, it will be a big help.
The Ancestral File should be in the speculation category,
as well as any source that consists of a name and email
address. (or maybe not listed at all).

Benjamin Casey is the son of Peter Casey who died in 1779.
These are scanned images . All three were in the VA Continental Service. John and Robert

Jumping from South Carolina to Virginia for a minute.
I have a copy of the Will of a John Casey in King George County, VA written 3
November 1768 and presented in court by the Executor Laurence Catlett on 6
April 1769. John does not mention a wife. He gives to Leonne Wharton thirty
Pounds, he gives to Jouvier??? (can't read) Wharton Thirty Pounds and he give
to Delinena Wharton four Barrels of corn and two Bushels of Wheat (no
relationship stated for any of these people.). He gives to Samuel Casey his
grey Mare and Saddle. he gives to John Casey son of Samuel the rest of his
Estate. No relationship stated for Samuel or John. John indicates that his
Executor should "take care of the Money until the children come of age."
Witnesses were Laurence Catlett, William Vaughan and Reuben Wharton. Anyone
know who this John is or where he fits in?

Randall,
James and Elizabeth Casey were my gggggrandparents. So far, I have not been
able (nor anyone else I have corresponded with researching this Casey line)
to connect to the Jesse E. Casey line or any of the other Casey line in this
area.
Some list James's father as Henry Casey who was born in 1750 in Cork,
Ireland. I am not sure this is correct!
It would be great to finally make some connections. I feel there is a blood
connection some where!
Thanks,
Rita

Rita,
What are the dates on your James and Elizabeth Casey who were in McMinn
County, TN. In 1830 and 1840 in McMinn County were Amner (Ambler), John and
Moses Casey. John and Moses are thought to be the sons of Ambler. This is
Mary Casey's line and so I will stay out of that and let her comment but
there is also a Demsey Casey in McMinn Co. in 1830 and 1840. I don't know
anything about him - do you? I have seen some info online indicating he was
born 1798 in Virginia and died in Greene County, Indiana but don't know if
that is correct (there I go breaking my own rules - spreading undocumented
info! - remember no proof here!). Anyone have any documented info on this
Demsey/Dempsey Casey?

I have a Winnifred Casey married to Patrick Roe in Morris County {probably
Pequannock (now Boonton)}, New Jersey in January 1851. Her first name is
alternately spelled either W'endy or H'endy on the marriage record. She died
soon after probably in 1851 or early 1852. I can find no record of her death
or burial. Patrick Roe immigrated in 1846 so Winnifred was probably about
the same time. Does anyone have a connection?
