Hi,
Hope I've not asked too many questions in one query. Many lines all
connect together. If you can't help me clarify I hope something here
helps you. I HOPE "someone out there" is related to at least one of the
names re which I give and ask info.
One of my gg grandmothers: Malinda B. DOOLIN (b: 14 Sep 1834, Madison co,
Missouri or Kentucky. Her parents were b in Kentucky - per census
records.) had the name Malinda WOODWARD at the time she married one of my
gg grandfathers, Daniel E. HAM. This is per Daniel's Bible. Listed in the
same Bible including their birth dates are two girls who do not have the
HAM name.
(1) Mary Ann WOODWARD b: 2 Mar 1851
(2) Narcissus J. ROBINSON b: 13 Mar 1852 (Jane)
Does ANYONE have ANY idea who Malinda B. DOOLIN's WOODWARD husband was?
These two girls are the only exceptions - except for two names I know for
certain.
(1) = my grandfather.
(2) = his brother.
The one sister of the two "boys", three children total, is not listed in
the same Bible.
Since Malinda B. DOOLIN was Malinda WOODWARD at the time of her marriage
to my gg grandfather Daniel E. HAM, per his Bible, I am GUESSing that the
Mary Ann WOODWARD listed in the HAM Bible is/was a daughter of Malinda's.
That is the only "proof" I have re Mary Ann WOODWARD, b: 2 Mar 1851. Does
anyone have ANYTHING else - proof/source?
A descendant of Wesley Allen CASEY, son of Moses CASEY, a brother of "my"
Ambler CASEY has a "family listing" that has Bill DODSON listed as having
married Mary WOODWARD. "Bill DODSON" is/was William Stephen DOTSON, one
of the children of D. Edmond "General" DOTSON/DODSON and Susanah CASEY.
It would make sense for an Allen CASEY descendant to have a listing w/a
WOODWARD on it because Allen's wife was a WOODWARD and there are other
WOODWARDs in this (mine) and at least two other CASEY lines.
Problem is:
(1) Instead of leaving the "family listing" alone - just as she received
it, she modifies the lists each time she speaks to someone who says
something different than the list. I only have a copy. It is VERY
difficult to tell was was "original" and what has been changed. When I
have tried to obtain the differences from her she has not understood me.
(2) When I have asked her where she originally obtained each piece,
especially when it appears to have been changed, she either doesn't
understand what I'm asking or doesn't remember who told her what and/or
when. Difficult to use current list as "source" but at least it helps to
attempt to look for records/source. I believe the listing may have been
true source at some point. Maybe not.
This same person has some "family info" on the ESSEX and WOODWARD
families. I researched census records on the William "Willis" WOODWARD
and Elizabeth 'Betsy' AMMON family for several census years.
Unfortunately, in my on-line "notes" I only wrote the census year(s) and
location(s). I did not list each family member listed for each census
year and the detailed info re each member. It is possible I have the
census info entered into at least one person's notes. I get tired of
typing the same info over and over - in the notes of everyone associated
to same.
I moved a couple of times in the past 2/3 years and right this moment
have no idea where those census records are. I have a family room full of
boxes. I plan on moving again thus have not organized my genealogical
research files/records. It is possible I have the census info entered
into at least one person's notes. I get tired of typing the same info
over and over - in the notes of everyone associated to same.
I have another family listing (again in my records boxes) that lists a
Mary WOODWARD as being the 7th child of William "Willis" WOODWARD &
Elizabeth "Betsy" AMMON. Now I am uncertain as to who are the parents of
Mary Ann Woodward. The census records gives ages such that abt 1839/`840
is her birth year. The Family Record info gives an exact birth date of 2
Mar 1851. This means that either William 'Willis' WOODWARD married
Malinda B. DOOLIN - or Malinda B. DOOLLIN married a different WOODWARD.
There is a ten year difference from the "family notes" info re Mary Ann
WOODWARD and the census info I have on Mary WOODWARD. Up until just
recently I did not realize how important these ESSEX' and
WOODWARD/WOODARDs are to my lines. Thus I don't have the info memorized
and I didn't enter all the notes I should have. There may be two Mary Ann
WOODWARDs. There is abt a ten year difference so it could easily be two.
I believe the Mary Ann WOODWARD (b:2 Mar 1851) listed in the HAM Bible
was a daughter of "my" Malinda (DOOLIN) (WOODWARD) HAM. However, I do not
know who Marlinda B. (DOOLIN) (WOODWARD) HAM's WOODWARD husband was. I
can't even guess. Do YOU have ANY ideas?
I do not know why a ROBINSON is also listed in the Bible - the only
person I can't "place". Does ANYONE know why Narcissus is listed in the
HAM Bible - a Bible that contains ONLY the names of "family"?
Did Malinda also marry a ROBINSON? For a minimum of 2/3 census
records/years in Arkansas (Johnson County, I believe) the DOOLINs,
ROBINSONs, COOKSEYs and ROBOTTOMS all lived very close to each other. If
Malinda did marry a ROBINSON, Narcissus J. ROBINSON was born after Mary
Ann WOODWARD, meaning Malinda's name should have been ROBINSON at the
time she married Daniel E. HAM. That is not what the Bible states. Since
the DOOLINs were so close to the ROBINSONs it is highly possible that a
ROBINSON was "family" to Malinda (DOOLIN) (WOODWARD) HAM because whoever
Narcissus' mother was PERHAPS she was one of Malinda's siblings. The
HAMs' house was "always full of company/people". Narcissus could easily
have been the daughter of one of Malinda's sisters.
DOES ANYONE know who Narcissus J. ROBINSON's parents were and why they
were living in the HAM household? Her middle name was Jane. I forget my
source/proof on that. Is anyone on this Distribution List also a ROBINSON
and/or doing research on ROBINSONs?
A Narcissus J. ROBINSON married Esquire E. 'Squire' ESSEX on 20 Feb 1868,
per Marriage Book A, pg 93, Newton County, AR. I do not know what
happened to Narcissus. She is not listed in the most recent edition of
the Newton County Cemetery Book. She was not listed in later census
records, at least not w/ESSEX and not that I found. Her husband, Squire
ESSEX went on to marry someone else. Is this because Narcissus died or
did they split or divorce? I don't believe Narcissus J. ROBINSON is
listed as a wife of Esquire E. "Squire" ESSEX in some publications -
on-line and elsewhere. Don't know why. Perhaps "whoever" did not find a
marriage license. I have a copy of the Bible page.
The same person who has the Malinda/Mary Ann WOODWARD info has an
ESSEX/ROBINSON listing
I don't remember if the lists match w/the census records. I do know they
are at least very similar if not 100%.
Squire married Sarah J. SHATSWELL on 2 Oct 1878, per Marriage Book A, pg
433. Both Sarah and Squire are buried in Crossroads Cemetery, near
Jasper, Newton County, AR. Narcissus is not listed as being buried there.
I have found no other marriage record for Narcissus. An "electronic book"
on the Internet, by Robert Brooks CASEY, states that Squire's first wife
was LATTIMORE. I know nothing about her. Does anyone else?
Rebecca WOODWARD is believed to be WARREN ESSEX's second wife, not
believed to be the mother of Thomas, Esquire and/or Sarah. Those three
are believed to have been children from Warren ESSEX's first wife. I do
not know her name. Do you?
A sister of Allen CASEY, a brother of my Ambler CASEY, both sons of Moses
and Elizabeth (COE) CASEY, Susanah CASEY (b:abt 1836, McMinn Co, TN),
married John Kilman YOUNG (b: AL). One of their sons married Sarah
Virginia "Ginnie" DODSON/DOTSON (b: Sep 1861, AR). As of the 1870 census
the John and Susan (CASEY) YOUNG family lived in Boone County, AR, just
above Newton Co, AR, where most of the CASEYs stayed for a couple more
census years. A descendant of John and Susan (CASEY) YOUNG sent me some
family records on DOTSON/DODSONs. I have no idea if the DOTSON/DODSON who
married into the John Kilman and Susanah "Susan" (CASEY) YOUNG lineage
connects with The D. Edmond "General" and Susanah "Susan" (CASEY)
DOTSON/DODSON line. Do you know?
I don't remember seeing any YOUNGs or CASEYs in w/the DOTSON/DODSON info
I was sent. I received no source/proof with the DOTSON/DODSON listings so
I don't know if what I have is accurate or "family info." Those sheets
are in a box "somewhere". I did some research on John and Susan (CASEY)
YOUNG but at the time I was not looking for DOTSON/DODSONs. That was just
a "nice to have", especially w/no source.
A CASEY family listing gives John Kilman YOUNG a nickname of (sic)
"Crocket". Does ANYONE know why John had that nickname - or perhaps the
family member got confused?
I am not an ESSEX researcher. It is believed, at least by some of the
ESSEX researchers, that Squire ESSEX was the son of his father's first
wife, whose name is unknown to me. His fathers second wife was Rebecca
WOODWARD. Rebecca WOODWARD had three sisters, Mary, Elender and Sarah E.
WOODWARD.
It appears as though Malinda (DOOLIN) (WOODWARD) HAM named three
daughters after the sisters of Rebecca (WOODWARD) ESSEX. Since Malinda B.
DOOLIN was married first to a WOODWARD and Mary Ann WOODWARD is listed
in Daniel E. HAM's Bible, I believe Mary Ann WOODWARD ( born: 2 Mar 1851)
was Malinda's first daughter. I believe Malinda named her after a sister
of Rebecca - named Mary. While married to Daniel E. HAM, Malinda had two
other daughters who appear to have been named after Rebecca's sisters:
Elender, my great grandmother (HAM) CASEY and Sarah Elizabeth HAM, a
sister of Elender. I have not seen the name Elender elsewhere in my line
or anywhere else. Malinda had another daughter, Martha. I don't see
Martha listed as a sister of Rebecca WOODWARD.
I am certain I have put more info in this msg than required. I'm just
hoping it helps me find connections somewhere. Please note that some of
the information is my opinions; i.e., not proven. I hope I have indicated
every place where it is a "hope" a "belief" vs proven - with source.
I
know where the people fit that I mention but as to why they were named as
they were are guesses - not proven. These guesses help tie the families
together, along with source/proof.
If anything is of interest to you and you can't tell if it's source or my
opinion, please ask and I will let you know. I you are related to any of
the people and/or lines mentioned, I'd LOVE to hear from you. If you have
info on anyone I mention especially if you have info re anything I
question I'd love to have the info.
I would love to know who Malinda B. (DOOLIN) (WOODWARD) HAM's WOODWARD
husband was. To me it seems there are so many WOODWARDs and I don't know
how they all fit. Hmm. Sounds like CASEYs.
I would also LOVE to know where Narcissus Jane (ROBINSON) ESSEX fits and
what happened to her. Did she die? If so, where? Anyone have any idea as
to whether or not she remarried? She just "vanished".
Thanks,
Casey
