I have to get my two cents in. Anybody can file their so-called information
in LDS's Ancestral Files and no one checks it nor do they require proof.
Therefore, the Church won't do anything about misinformation. I too have
found erroneous information in those files and have tried writing to the
culprits but they won't answer to explain where they got their info. There
is nothing we can do about it except to warn newbies not to take those files
as gospel. You have to check everything out for yourself.
My earliest proven Casey is Elisha, who married Allie B. Patrick in Campbell
Co. GA in 1835. One person claims his name was Caleb Elisha Casey, but I
don't know where the Caleb came from. He is speculated to be one of the
Spartanburg, S.C. Caseys. He had a brother whose name was spelled Ausborn,
sometimes spelled Orsborn and Osborn. I'm thinking it could have been
mother's maiden name or a relative's name.

Yes, logic says that if you see eight different versions of the same
person on the LDS site, they can't all be correct. I have made a custom
fact for my research gedcom called "discrepancy" to record things that
don't pan out exactly but seem worth checking into further and replacing
with better, more substantiated sources such as wills, deeds, court
records. Another custom fact is called "possible link" which serves as a
reminder to check someone/somewhere else for an apparent, (but not
proven) connection. Just suggestions to keep from throwing the baby out
with the bathwater. - Joyce
