Hi Linda,
Daniel Casey is not one of the Casey's that I have in my database, but let
me tell you what I found out about a Daniel Casey in Maryland while doing
some research. I was looking at the 1790 census for Maryland in the
Ancestry Database and discovered eight different listings for Casey's.
Daniel was one of the names. The census index for him was this:
Maryland Census -- 1790, p.87
Name of head of family: Casey, Daniel
Free white males of 16 years and upward, including heads
of families: 1
Free white males under 16 years: 4
Free white females, including heads of families: 3
Maybe the Daniel you are looking for is a son. There were other Casey's
too. There was a Robert, a Hampton, an Alice, and several Solo Casey's.
There was a Smith Casey and a John Casey too. The only name of these that
appear in my database is John. My Casey's belong to the Abner Brooks Casey
family who also reputedly (no tomatoes please) came from Maryland. They
probably did, but when I do research I look at everything and try to prove
it could be or prove that it wasn't. After seeing the Maryland data, I have
considered the possibility that there may be several different family
lines, the names are so different. But I also think that it is possible that
when Abner moved there may have been other Casey's that stayed behind in
Maryland. That happens alot. I have seen some evidence that there were
Casey's in Virginia before 1700. I guess you have seen the ensuing
discussion. I found it interesting because my Casey's, John Casey, through
Benjamin Casey according to the Casey and Allied Family Manuscript that you
have heard so much about in our discussion. John Casey, my relative was
involved in a court battle over some land in Nicholas County, VA near the
old Kenewha road. This is the area that Nicholas, Richardand Nathaniel
Casey was found in. Of course my interest was piqued. I am along way from
proving anything, but I did learn alot in the discussion.
One more thing. There appears to be at least two families of Casey's in
Georgia during the years that you are looking for. Randolph Casey and his
clan are there. For a long time I thought Randolph Casey was the link my
Georgia Casey's made to the Abner Casey line. Found the military records
of John Casey, the court case I mentioned above and the will of William
Bilbro that mentions my William.
There is no mention of William Morris beyond his mention in the land case.
It is encouraging that you find the Morris name with the Casey name in one
place. It is a start. If I find anything else, or if you have any other
questions, I would be glad to look at what I have. Wish you luck in your
search. Let me know if the Daniel in the census checks out.
