Your info is the same as I have on James Casey the Revolutionary War Soldier from Isle
of Wight, VA. This Aaron John Casey born in NC ???? Problem with census takers, now TN was
part of NC part of VA at one time.
I will have to pinpoint who Aaron John Casey is in Montgomery Co IL.
Joyce the Henry Hill is my gggg Uncle, in the article Levi Casey is the son of General
Levi Casey and Elizabeth Duckett. Easton Whitten was my gggg grandfather he came to the
Hurricane abt 1818. John Casey may be the son of Levi Casey , my gggg grandfather did not
come to IL until abt 1830 or whomever wrote the article gave him credit for being an early
settler. Elijah Whitten and Charity Duckett are my ggggg grandparents.
I have done alot of research and collecting on the Hill Families, the Whitten Families,
Duckett Families, I was lucky some of it was handed down and all I had to do is check it.
As far as the Casey DNA project is going I started it but have not sent my DNA, I will
do it soon.

Tim, the information I have from this James Casey's pension abstract gives
his son's name as "Aaron John Casey." However, I haven't seen the
original
application in its entirety. Here's what I show from the abstract:
"Casey, James. (S9158, Va. service and Agcy; Cert. 6282 issued 6 Feb
1833...from 4 Mar 1831...he applied from Isle of Wight, Va., 3 Sept
1832, age 74 under (he thinks) Henry Pitt, in Portsmouth, Va. He went
to Williamsburg, then to Dumfries in the 15th Va. Regt. under Col.
David Mason. After he and many others recovered from small pox, the
Regt. marched north. In the Co. commanded by Capt. Gray he was in the
battles of Germantown and Stony Point. At the latter, Albridgeton
Jones was Adj; Lettleberry Mason was Paymaster of the Regt. He carried
from the last battlefield Capt. Edmunds from Va., who was wounded in
the leg. Deponent's Regt. was stationed for 1 mo. at Valley Forge. He
was dischgd. after service of 3 yr. and returned in company with
Charles Broadfield, Walter Bond, and John Toller, who served with him.
All were from Isle of Wight Co.
Rev. Daniel Whitley and Nathaniel Young, both of the latter county,
testify in the case. Aaron John Casey, heir, appoints an atty. in
1861."
On county formation: Montgomery Co., IL was formed in 1821 from Bond
County, IL. There is a history and minutes of "Hurricane Primitive Baptist
Church" in Bond County on the internet. It mentions that Aaron Casey married
Martha Rowe there at the church about 1818 (more about the marriages online
that will be interesting to you.) Henry HILL Sr and Jr and Thomas HILL were
also church members. This is the URL for more info on the church:
http://www.llcc.cc.il.us/justice/hurricane.html
Also it says in a newspaper article written in 1873 that Aaron, Levi and
John Casey were among the early settlers (about 1817) in the Hurricane Creek
area of Bond County.
In 1820, Aaron Casey and Levi Casey were in the same age group in the Bond
County federal census.
In 1825, Aaron Casey as on the state census of Hurricane Fork, Bond Co., IL
along with Henry Hill Sr. and Jr.
In the 1850 census in Montgomery Co., IL (formerly Bond Co.), it notes that
"Aron Casey" age 58 (b 1792) was his wife Martha were both born in NC (not
SC--is this true or a census error?). They were enumerated next to a younger
Easten Whitten (Easton Whitten Sr. was an early member (1832) of the
Hurricane Prim.Bapt.Church.
From my notes, I show connection of an Easton Whitten whose parents were
Elijah Whitten and wife Charity Duckett. Easton's daughter Margaret married
Samuel Casey, son of John and Drucilla Casey. Easton and his wife Wilma
Johnson had two other children who also married children of John and
Drucilla. Back to Charity Duckett who m. Elijah Whitten...Charity had a
sister Elizabeth who m. Brig. Gen. Levi Casey whose son Levi "Old Flynn"
Casey (b 1791 SC) m. Chloe HILL in 1812 in Warren Co., KY. So, maybe that's
why he isn't on the church list--he's still in KY. (At this point I'm just
"comparing notes," cannot attest to accuracy of all these relationships
since I currently do not possess primary documents.)
Have you had your DNA tested, Tim? Since there are so many apparent Casey
connections with the Ducketts and Hills and Whittens and Whitmires (e.g.,
Brig. Gen. Levi Casey's son Jacob Duckett Casey m Charity Whitmire whose
mother was Sarah HILL, sister of Drucilla HILL Casey. It would be great to
get a baseline on your family from a male descendant.

Subject: [CASEY-L] John Casey /Nokomis/Montgomery Co IL
I was reading the Casey Family History compiled by Alvin Harold and Robert
Brooks Casey, I was reading about James Casey of Isle of Wight County Va. It
stated that James Casey was a revolutionary War soldier applied for a
pension in 1830. It stated in the article that there were some three letters
written in 1861 and 1862. These letters were written from NOKOMIS, IL by an
attorney who was "appointed to settle the business fo John CASEY, the son of
said James Casey that was in the Revolutionary war." These letters were
written "to collect all dues to him and heirs." It is not known if payment
was made by the Pension Office.
NOte: Nokomis IL is in Montgomery Co IL early settlers of the Casey
Families were Aaron Casey abt 1818, John Casey 1830, Warren Co KY, Wilson
Casey abt 1830 from Wayne Co TN. Not saying a Casey may have settled there
that I have not found. My gggg grandfather John Casey never named a son
James neither did Aaron now my ggg grandfather John Casey did name a son
James William Casey with his second wife Lavina Hilton, this does not mean
he was not named after her father. I will have to check on this.
Reason for this email is that Walter E. Casey wrote the "Casey and Allied
Families" manuscript and published it in 1980. He joined the Sons of the
Revolution but there is no documentation to support John Casey was the son
of Christopher Casey who died in Cole Co Mo. John , Aaron, Hardin never
named a son Christopher would you not name a son after your father
especially the 1st born in that time period?
I have always had the opinion that Walter was in error but could not prove
the error of John Casey being the son of Christopher Casey of Cole Co MO.
Anyone have any info on this James Casey Revolutionary Soldier , the
letters from Nokomis IL. Would they be in the Montgomery Co IL Courthouse ?
Pension files for James Casey????
When I first read the Casey Family manuscript Nokomis IL did not register
and I was reading again it stuck out. May be nothing but I need to ask for
any help or information one might have. Opinion are valued so please do.
