While researching at the Harrison, AR library I ran across this article in
"The King's Mountain Men" about the men who fought in that battle;
The brothers Benjamin, Levi, and Randolph were in the Second South Carolina
under Colonel Elijah Clark. Randolph, a sergeant, was born in Virginia, was
pensioned in Smith County, 1831, married Mary Jane Pennington, and his son
Zadoc married Rachel King.
This paragraph speaks of Benjamin , Gen Levi Casey and Randolph (we know that Gen Levi
and Randolph were brothers. I am thinking that this Benjamin is the son of Abner Casey. As
Benjamin Casey son of Peter died in the Revolutionary War. I think in PA.
William fought at Mount Pleasant under Captain Shelby. Two years later, he
and his sister Nancy Arthur Blackburn, and Arthur Harold were on their way
to
Rev. Charles Cummings to bring some books and other articles to the fort in
the vicinity. They were attacked by Indians, Blackburn was shot and
scalped,
but his body was recovered. As Casey was running for his life, he saw the
Indians in hot pursuit of his sister. He called to Harold to help him, and
the latter complied although there were from four to six of the foe. By
keeping between them and Nancy, the Indians were beaten off, the men firing
alternately.
This William Casey son of John Casey they were in Fredrick Co MD or VA (off my head)
came to Lincoln Co KY.
He is the g grndfather of Samuel Clemons (Mark Twain) He
was a pioneer of KY (Casey's Station). I would check my notes but Casey Co KY is named
after him, he also was in Adair Co KY I think when he died. He married to Margaret
Blackburn.
Am I reading this correctly? Who was William, was he a Blackburn?
If so,
then that clears up The relationship of Nancy. Just whose sister was Nancy
Arthur Blackburn? It states that she is Casey's sister!!! I have always
understood that the Casey brothers had a sister, but I have nothing on her,
not even a name. This book was supposed to be about the men that fought at
King's Mountain, but say's nothing about them being there.
Hope somebody knows
Wanda Norman
