Let me see if I am getting this stright,
Washington County use to make up the entire State of Tenn. at the time when
it was land taken away from the State of NC to form the State in the first
place, correct?
Then at some point in time it was divided up into other Counties one at the
time. Correct?
The Part to remain as the once Washington County was the section over
closest to the States of NC and VA still and remains such today. Correct?
So..............................
A Grandson born to a Son of a Man found living over in Greenville Dist. SC
who first was seen in Surry NC prior to Greenville Dist. SC could very well
mean that these folks had known each other for quite some time, Correct?
The Portion of Surry NC that was once something else and in fact a part of
the Part of NC taken to make the State of Tenn. in the first Place.
Or am I totally lost?
This is hard to follow I know. It has to be because I am having a devil of
a time with it.
I will continue by asking this:
I am here as I have Casey's in my line. I have a Margaret Casey who married
Hicks Martin in Forsyth Co. GA later on and moved and settled in Carroll
County, GA. Margaret Casey was the daughter of Isaac Casey and Dicey
Henderson. Isaac I am told was a son of a man named William and his wife I
believe I was told was a Wilkie.
Well Hicks Martin was the son of Thomas Martin, Jr. and Elizabeth { }
Thomas Martin, Jr. was the son of Thomas Martin, Sr. the RS and his wife
Sabra Wilkie.
So the surname Wilkie shows up on both sides here. Both on Margaret Casey's
side and Hicks Martin's Side as well. Were these women sisters to each
other or some other kin............thus my thinking that they knew each
other for years prior to these marriages.
Ok now from Hicks Martin and Margaret Casey coming down this way to the more
present day I see this:
A daughter of theirs Margaret Cordillia Martin married James Amos
Entriken
They had a ton of kids about 17 in all and I have all of that as my own
Grandmother was one of them.
Now of these 17 children:
Grandma Zona Almeda Entriken married in Carroll County GA Ovid Dunlap
Cothran on Oct. 21, 1900
Her Sister Iouella Entriken married a John Cochran (sic) in Carroll County
{waiting on marriage cert.}
So this brings up this new Surname:
Cothran sometimes seen as Cochran or Cockrum among many others.
Well it so happens that going back up from Ovid Dunlap Cothran my very own
Grandfather.................
This Father and Mother buried in Carroll County, GA
George Washington Lafayette Cothran and Harriet F. McColman
George W.L. Cothran was the son of William Cockrum and Mary "Polly" Spillers
{Cothran line from documents, marriage cert., censuses, bible records &
other Misc. Doc.}
George W. L. Cothran had a brother his name was John Maloy Wilson
Cockrum..........(what a name to hang on a kid)
Anyway I followed him until Calhoun County, AL on Sept. of 1861 where we
find he married Mary Ann White.
Now did she died and this is him over in Carroll County, GA later marrying
My Great Aunt?
So as you can see I am looking at a lot of different surnames here that all
connect in some way back into my few Casey's that I have.
Margaret Casey was a GGGrandmother to me, and I would love to find out more
about these Casey's.
Anyone who knows of any of this please get in touch with me.
Gail

<< How close is Maury County, TN to Washington Co. TN?
was it the same back then as I know some of the
Counties in some of the states did change from time to time.

Washington Co., TN was formed in 1777 and covered most of what is now the
state of TN. It also included part of what is now NC. Maury Co. was
formed
in 1807 from what was Williamson County. At this time, Washington
County
is
to the far east of the state, not far from both VA & NC. Maury
County is
to
the west in the central part of the state, north of Giles County
which
touches AL.
So, it is going to depend upon your time frame to determine where your
people lived.

My Casey line: George W. Casey, b 1808 VA, (maybe Henry County) married 1)
unk, 2) Mrs. Elizabeth French in Calloway County, KY. George died in St
Clair County, MO.
