HI Casey listers,
Catherine Casay (Cashay) Casey (born late 1700's) WIDOW of unknown CASEY
in Southern Tipperary area had 2 dau. Ann and Elizabeth Casey . Widow
Catherine
remarries a Richard McGrath in Carrick on Suir Tipperary in Oct. 1814.
This
couple emigrated to Argentia Newfoundland. According to oral history,
the
McGraths were blacksmiths and fled Ireland to avoid prosecution for
making weapons used during the rebellions of the time period (possibly
Rising of the Moon). The
McGraths emigrated with the Power family and went to the Placentia Bay
area of
Newfoundland, near Oderin/Argentia where many Irish worked in the
fishery.
Step dau. Ann Casey was my gggmother who married Thomas Conner(s)
Argentia
RC 1835. This is where my Casey line dies. I will continue to look for
her father
who died in Ireland (perhaps in rebellion) and his family. I have run
across a number o
CASEY's in my search particularly in Kerry and Tipperary. And I believe
these
early CASEY's left Ireland and emigrated through Canada to New England.
Newfoundland had close ties to Mass. thru the fishing industry on the
Grand Banks.
Join the Essex Mass list...I will post a query there and see if any
Casey's turn up early in
Salem. Heffernan and Ryan are also common names in Newfoundland. Good
luck Joanne
