George Taylor (1711-92), who had fought in the early wars, organized and
drilled the Orange County militia. He was a member of the Committee of

Edmund, Francis, Richard, John, William, [p.152] Charles, Reuben, and
Benjaminwho served as officers in the army and navy in the Revolution.
He was born in Caroline County, Va.; died in Orange County, Va.

Richard Taylor (1741-1829) was lieutenant, 1775, of the 1st Virginia
regiment. He was captain, 1776, major of the 13th regiment, 1778, and in
1779 held the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He was born in Orange County,
Va.; died in Jefferson County, Ky. Andrew Waggener (1743-1813), in 1776,
was captain of the 12th regiment, and in 1778 major of the 8th regiment.
He was taken prisoner at Charleston; when exchanged served until
retired, in 1781. He was born in Spotsylvania County, Va.

Thomas Edwards, 1st, was a member of the Assembly when Charleston was
threatened and he joined the army to defend the colony. His name is
inscribed on the tablet in the capitol grounds in Columbia to
commemorate those who served. At Greenville, where he died, 1832, is
inscribed on his tombstone Soldier, Patriot, and Statesman.

of West Point, 1781. He was born in Woodbury, Conn.
Ayers Tuttle (1762-1837) was a private in Capt. David Leavenworth's
company, Colonel Mosley's regiment of militia, stationed at Horse Neck,
1779. He was born in Woodbury, Conn.; died in Westfield, Pa.
John Waklee (1759-1835) enlisted at New Milford, Conn., 1776, serving
under Capt. Ruben Bostwick, Colonel Silliman. In 1832 applied for a
pension. His claim was allowed. He was born in North Stratford, Conn.;
died in Brookfield, Pa. [p.242] Samuel Eldred (1720-85) enlisted, 1776,
in Capt. Benjamin West's company, Rhode Island troops. He was born and
died in Exeter, R. I.
John Eldred (1763-1822) served, 1781, in Capt. Thomas Hughes' company,
Lieutenant-Colonel Olney's regiment; engaged in battles of White Plains
and Yorktown. He was born in Exeter, R. I.; died in Groton, N. Y.
Timothy Barnes (1739-1831) served in the 18th Connecticut regiment of
militia, Captain Merrell's company. He was born in Southington, Conn.;
died in Williamsville, Mass. Thomas Seaman (1746-1824) was fifer, 1780,
in Col. Jeremiah Olney's regiment of Connecticut militia. He was born
and died in Scituate, R. I.
