Why would you need to do a gedcom? Just install family tree maker software on your new
computer. Then COPY your family tree maker file to teh new computer. Open FTM on the new
computer and open tyour copied file. This is the same process as any other computer file.
You did not say what versions of FTM you had. newer versions should open any older FTM
files. However new FTM files generally will not open on older versions of FTM will not .

In general, you should:
1. Create a GEDCOM file of entire data base on old computer.
2. Copy that GEDCOM file to new computer.
3. Install any genealogy program on the new computer.
4. Import the GEDCOM file to the genealogy program on new
computer.
Then, if everything is good, you will be through with the old one.
