John Casey son of Abner Casey and Harriet Green (Harriet not proven.) or
Welsh woman. John Casey was born about 1727 in Baltimore Maryland. He moved
with his parents to Southwest VA where he grew to manhood. It is not known
if he went to SC with his parents or not at this time . He married
Isabella --------- , whose maiden name is not known ( this would be Isabella
Allison) and there were nine children born to this union.
1. Joseph Casey ( there is a DAR on a Joseph Casey b. 1763 MD d. 1846 KY
married a ----------Blackwood. Sgt PA pensioner ( I think these are two
differnt Josephs.)
2. Moses Casey no info
3. Allison Casey apparently named after mothers maiden name.
4. Jenny Casey no info
5. Susanna Casey no info
6. Jesse Casey no info
7. Mary Casey no info
8.Cassander Casey no info
9. Son not named
The only info on family which comes from a Will in Spartanburg SC.
Apparently John had a son who is not named in will but grandsons Alfred
Casey and John S. Casey were named and grew up in the home.
(the above info from Walter E. Casey manuscript Casey and Allied Families
1979.)
Now according to the !876 manuscript written by Lewis F. Casey,(descendant
of Randolph Casey) Randolph had a brother named John and according to the
History of Jefferson Co IL, written in 1883, Randolph was the son of Abner
Casey progenitor of the family in America. There is no doubt that these two
documents refer to the same Randolph Casey , therefore, these two references
establish that Abner Casey had a son named John.
There are definitely two different men named John Casey who could be the
son of Abner Casey the Irish immigrant. One was found in what is now
Newberry Co SC as early as 1755 and died there between 1775 and 1777. The
other lived in Washington Co VA in 1779 and died in Lincoln Co KY in 1790.
There is proof that the second John Casey was the great grandfather of
Samuel Clemons or as we know him Mark Twain. Because of a passage found in
the "History of Jefferson Co IL" it is believed that John Casey moved to
South Carolina. The passage states that "the family moved to SC about year
1760, located near Spartanburg SC. Since many of Abner's children did move
to SC about 1760, then it is probable that John Casey did also. Because of
this info the authors ofchose the John Casey that lived in Newberry Co SC as
the son of Abner, the Irish Immigrant. This conclusion also deviates from
the 1964 manuscript written by George and Abner Casey. However in order to
preserve the research done on both men named John Casey, both are described
in detail.
( info from Casey Family History compiled by Harold Casey and Robert Casey )
I have looked over both the Walter E. Casey manuscript and the above Casey
Family History.
My remarks to both are this Mark Twains line is John Casey of Lincoln Co KY
and was the father of Col William Casey of Ky .
In Walters manuscript it is stated that Benjamin Casey m. Judith Carson as
the father of Col. William Casey , I find this to be not correct and have
the documentation from a Ky Historical Society Paper. But my Question is who
is the father of John Casey of Lincoln Co Ky and migrated from Washington Co
VA. Does anyone have the answer I can discuss more of the VA place of
Residence.
2. How and who does John Casey and Isabelle Allison belong to ?
3. The John Casey who was living on the Enoree River in 1775. Abner Casey is
the proper heir to John Casey land in 1777. it is believed he died in
Newberry Co SC between 1775 and 1777.
4. The will of John Casey m. to Isabelle Allison was probated in 1815 isnt
that along time from his death.
5. Does anyone have info on the Abner Casey son of John Casey .
Any info or ideas on this would be much appreciated. Tim Casey
