Anthony Casey is one of those men who faithfully served his country during the
troublesome times of war and is now a prominent, law-abiding , public spirited
and patriotic citizen. He was born in Tennessee, in Morgan County, in 1826,
and lived in that State until about eight years old he came with his parents,
Jesse and Martha (Coe) Casey to Franklin Co. Mo. About two years later the
parents came to Johnson County, Ark. Where they resided about five years and
then moved to Newton County Mo., making their home at the head of the Hudson
River.There Jesse bought a farm and passed the remainder of his days, dying in
1863. He was a southern sympathizer, but took no part in the war. For many
years Anthony was a primitive Baptist minister, and a physician of more than
ordinary ability. Although he never attended school more than three weeks in
his life he possessed a naturally active brain and was a student all his days,
being an eloquent speaker, and an interesting conversationalist. Anthony's
father Jesse Casey was of Irish origin and served through the Rev.war. The
mother died about 1846. She was a daughter of Steven Coe , who died in
Tennessee. They had 12 children named as follows: Polly, deceased, was the
wife of John Farmer; Tempa, widow of Thomas Farmer of Texas; Elizabeth, widow
of Zach. Beckam; Martha wife of Lewis Daniel , of Newton County Ark; Barbara,
wife of Hijah Snow, of Texas; Steven, of Marion County; Elijah, of Indian
Territory; Anthony; Levi, of Marion Co. Ark. deceased; Ambler, of Johnson Co.
Ark. deceased; Jesse, of Boone County Ark; and Wesley, of Johnson Co. Ark.
deceased; Anthony spent his youth in farm work and he received but limited
educational advantages. In Aug. 1846 he married in Newton Co., Jackson twsp.
Sealey Self, of Illinois, The daughter of Levi and Elizabeth Self, of
Illinois to Newton Co. . Sealey died Jan. 8, 1890. She was the mother of 7
children as follows: Martha, widow of John Hudson; William U., a prominent
farmer and merchant of Mt. Parthenon; Newton, of Indian terr.;Jesse; Jane,
wife of Allen Hudson, of this Co.;Sarah, deceased, was the wife of Columbus
Carlton, and Sealey died in infancy. Anthony resided in different parts of
Newton Co., and in 1858 moved to Taney County, Mo., where he remained until
1862. He then returned to Newton Co. And since the war has lived on his
present farm, eight and one half miles above Jasper, where he has 200 acres of
good land. In Sept. 1863 he joined co. E, 2nd Ark. Inf. U.S. Army and served
abt. 2 years in Ark. , Participating in a number of prominent
engagements.William U. Casey, son of Anthony , general merchant and farmer of
Mt. Parthenon, was b. in Newton Co. In 1849. At an early age became familiar
with the duties of the farm. When twenty he started out to make his own way
in life, and as he was familiar with farming, he became a farmer. He married
in 1869 Mary Elizabeth Carlton of Newton Co. Ark. ,the daughter of Anderson
Carlton. William and Elizabeth had 8 children ; James Marion; Amanda; Jane,
wife of Henry Phillips; William Anderson; George A.; Jesse C.;Levi; Sarah, who
died in infancy, and Mary E.. Mary wife of William U. died in Newton Co.
William remarried to Nancy Farmer, of Newton Co. And the daughter of Bird
Farmer . William and Nancy had 4 children as follows: Delia, deceased; John;
Jasper; and Jensey. William is a Republican , and held the office of Justice
of the Peace. For a number of years He is also a member of the Baptist Church.
