CASEY, Adeline KING 1837 Jeffersonville, Camden Co., Georgia USA
CASEY, William -res: 1837 Jeffersonville, Camden Co., Georgia USA
I've have just read of a "feud" between two newspaper
men named King and
Casey....actually it was a small two line mention in a book review from the
History Book Club. According to this very small mention, the feud resulted
in the death of one of these men (sorry I don't know the details yet, so I
don't know if it was the Casey or the King) in 1850 in San Francisco.
Recognizing that this is very sparse info and that I need to do some
research to gets things fleshed-out ....still I couldn't resist asking, does
this ring any bells with anyone?
From: "Peterson, Susan" <Susan.Peterson(a)METRKC.GOV> quoted - thanks

My family is from southeast Georgia...in 1837 my ancestor, Thomas King III
was hung in Jeffersonville, Camden Co., Georgia for killing some of the
Casey family (also one of my ancestral families) after his daughter, Adeline
King, eloped with one of the Casey men, William Casey. This was evidently
the culmination of a long standing feud between the Kings and Caseys of
southeast Georgia and northeast Florida based upon newspaper articles and
court records I have found in the 1800 public records. I know that 3 of
Thomas King's sons were also involved in the killing spree and later escaped
from prison in Savannah and ran to points west. We know that at least one
of those sons ended up in Alabama...we haven't been able to locate the other
two. I also know that one of Thomas King's grandsons was in California
during the goldrush via a political appointment. Members of the King family
were owners and editors of the newspaper in Kingsland, Georgia during the
early 1800s through the early 1900s. So, this little mention of a
King/Casey feud following a scant 13 years from the hanging of the patriach
of the King family and the newspaper connection piqued my interest.
My question is, and I recognize that both King and Casey are fairly common
names, could this San Francisco 'feud' be yet another in the long history of
my families' vengeance against one another??? Does anyone have any
specifics on the "great newspaper feud", as it is cited in the book review?
