Roane County January Session 1825
On this 25th day of January 1825 personally appeared in our court of pleas
and quarter sessions, being a court of record, having the power of fine and
imprisonment and made so by the laws of this state in the county of Roane and
state aforesaid Alexander Casey a resident of the County , age about 76 years
, who being duly sworn according to Law doth on his oath make the following
declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the act of Congress of
the 18th march 1818 and the 1st of May 1820; that he was enlisted as a private
soldier in the service of the United States for the term of 3 years on the 2nd
day of June in the year of Our Lord 1792 in the state of Virginia that he
continued to serve in the said corps. Until the term for which he enlisted
expired. He enlisted again in 1792 under Capt. Henry Debutts and Col. Strong
in Greeneville in Ohio he continued in that line until discharged by Thomas
Butler on the 25 day of June 1798. He was in the battle of fort Maumee un
General Wayne and several small skirmishes , that he had no other evidence now
in his power to prove his said service excepted his discharge hereto annexed
and the accompanying certificate are in pursuance of the act of Congress of
the 1st May 1820.
I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on
the 18th day of March 1818 and I have not since that time by gift sale or in
any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof, with intent thereby to
diminish it so as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress
entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval
service of the United States" passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I
have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities,
contracts or debts due me nor have I any income other than what is contained
in the schedule that follows and by John __?___ valued and certified to be
true

The declarant is by occupation a farmer and very much affected with pains and
entirely unable to support himself or wife except by the charity of his
neighbors, his wife is 60 years of age. He has but one child about 16 years of
age who is bound out.

Alexander apparently didn't get the pension so he came back to try again in
1832.

On this 23 day of July 1832 formally appeared in open Corut, it being a
court of record called the County Court, Alexander Casey , resident of Roan
county and state aforesaid , age about 84 or five (1747/8?) who being first
duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the followin declaration in
order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the act of congress
passed June 7th 1832 that he enlisted in the army of the United States in the
year 1792 the 25th of June to the best of his recollection, for 3 years in the
state of Virginia in the Co. Commanded by James Stephinson in the 4th Reg.
Commanded by Colonel Blue and went from Virginia to Pittsburg, down the Ohio
by land to Canada, Joined General Wayne at Pittsburg and was at the battle of
Fort Maumee and took Detroit. Was then placed under the command of Colonel
Butler, and was discharged at Bell Canton. His second enlistment was in
Canada during the marches aforesaid and the term of three years and he here
begs leave to refer to Samuel Eskridge Esq. Of Roane County who was in the
army at that time and knew this applicant, Captain Henry DeButts took command
of the Company in place of Stephenson at Fort Washington, and he was
discharged in 1778, which discharge was sent to the war department , with his
former declaration which is on file in that office , he hearby relinquishes
every claim or any suits whatever to a pension except the present and he
declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state.

And the said Court does hereby declare their opinion that above named
applicant was a revolutionary soldier and served as he states and that Right
Roberts, L.W. Jordan, William Eblen George Arnold and Casey are credible
persons.
I, Right Roberts , William Eblen and George Arnold residents of roane County
, State of Tennessee do certify on oath that I have long known A.Kasy, perhaps
23 years, he has and does now live in my neighborhood and I would believe him
on his oath about his service and the opinion generally of the neighborhood he
was a revolutionary soldier and I have often heard Samuel Eskridge a very
respected man of this county speak of A. Casey and said he knew him in the
army and that he was a good soldier.

believes him to be a credible man, and that the opinion of the neighborhood is
that he was a Revolutionary soldier.
