Just a couple of observations...
Fairfax Co., VA is located in the northeast corner of Virginia on the border
across the border from Maryland (as opposed to "across the border from Welks
(Wilkes?) Co. NC). I believe this would hold true regardless of the
timeframe under consideration. However, Halifax Co., VA is on the southern
border of Virginia adjoining North Carolina.
The Joseph Casey you mention can be found on the 1840 census, Kenton Co. KY
as a Rev War pensioner, his exact age cited as 78.
The William Casey is the "Col. William Casey" for whom Casey Co. KY was
named and whose activities are pretty well documented. There are various
Virginia counties reported as his birthplace, depending on the reference,
and various years for his birth.
- The book, Colonial Men and Times, says that William Casey was a native
of Frederick Co., VA. Not confirmed that he was actually born there.
- Lyman Draper's manuscript says Augusta County was place of birth.
- S. Bassett French's Biographical Sketches says Frederick County was place
of birth. (However, Frederick Co. and Augusta Co. were adjacent at one
time.)
- Casey Family Assn. site has Bedford Co., VA - not sure where this info
came from -- possibly because one John Casey was on the militia rolls in
Bedford Co. in 1758. Maybe it was assumed that this was William's father
because his father was said to be a John Casey (more in the Draper MS about
this.) Not sure about the connection with the Bedford Co. Casey.
On Oct. 10, 1774, William Casey as "a youth," participated in the Battle of
Point Pleasant (Mason Co., WV).
In 1777, this William Casey was on the payroll of Benjamin Logan's militia
company in KY along with Sgt. Hugh Leeper.
I have that William's death occurred either in 1816 or 1820 (again depending
on source--the Draper MS gives 1816-- at Adair Co., KY.
There is much more in the literature about this Col. William Casey. At the
same time, there are several points of conflicting information about his
ancestry and relatives. Would love to get it all sorted out someday :-)

A Capt. Benjamine Logan mentions Ky 1779

I seem to recall this may have been a law suit.
