Peter Casey dies in what is now present day Hardy Co., WV. which is on the
South Branch of the Potomac River and flows into the Chesapeake Bay.
The Kanawha River flows through Kanawha Co, WV into the Ohio River at Point
Pleasant (Mason Co., WV).

You may want to check out records in WVA - I understand the Peter Casey
(brother of Abner) lived in the part of VA from which WVA was
formed. (FYI, Many Malungeons live in the SW part of VA and into WVA). I
tried going into the WVA web site but they are having trouble with their
server right now. However, I do believe there is a Kanawha County in
WVA - the Kanawha River goes through there. The WVA web site does have a
section for historical/genealogical searches, I believe.

Roger,
I am in about the same boat as you are. My John Casey and his wife, Jane
Walker just appeared out of nowhere in North Carolina. 1784 and 1786
respectfully according to the 1860 census. They don't seem to fit any of
the Maryland/South Carolina Caseys.
Some of us Casey reachers had even thought of Melungeons (spelling)
Ancestry.
What state is Kanwha/Mason County in?

Hi, Caseys....
I´m a Casey spelled with a K since the late 1700s and have spent a good
deal of time searching for my family as they don´t fit the MD or SC bunch,
either. It turns out my James Casey/Kasey, according to family lore, may
have been a deserter from the British Navy and came ashore, with others,
in the Norfolk, Hampton area of VA. He then traveled across VA, first
landing in Boutetot Co. and then in Bedford Co., where he bought
land. He was originally from Ireland. This was a few years prior to the
Rev War and he did fight with the Bedford militia. He, of course, had a
son named John, but I know he's not yours.
Now, to John Caseys. In looking for my James, I found at least one John
Casey who was a mariner on the coast of NC. There were also some John
Caseys in the Isle of Wight Co. VA at that time and they're still
there. I don't think they're of the Abner bunch but they could well be.
Just thought I'd toss this out. I know how frustrating looking for Caseys
can be!

I might as well throw my Caseys in here too:)
My John Casey cannot be found so far through documentation, just family
lore, he was a sail maker and came to America to "keep from fighting for
the
British against America". Wife Jemima, no nothing more, the rest
of our
story can documented.
This couple had a son in America in 1762 named Dempsey Casey. This family
settled in Norfolk, but can only find Dempsey and his family. Dempsey Casey
was a Baptist Preacher in Norfolk. He married Elizabeth Crafts/Crofts,
daughter of Thomas Crafts of Portsmouth Va.
Deeds show that Dempsey and Elizabeth lived in Moyock Currituck Co. NC.
Dempsey died in 1814. Will filed in Currituck.
I have the Will of a Pasquotank Co. NC John Casey married to a Dorcas
Pritchard. Will in 1790 speaks of his sons Dempsey, William and Arthur and
daughter Page.
My Dempsey Casey son of John Casey named his first born son after his
father
in law Thomas Crafts and his second son William born 1794. Another son
born
in 1806 was named William.
There is a William Casey listed in the Currituck Co.NC census record in
1810
but cannot connect with this Dempsey or prove either or both are the
sons
of
Pasquotank Co. John Casey.
Hope some of this information helps another.

Hi Listers,
I'm noticing a lot of Caseys in the southern areas of the US but all (that
I'm aware of) of my clan settled in New England. I don't know exactly
when my Eugene arrived but I have his marriage record of 1871 (Rockland,
ME) and all that follow. I am told that he was ~ 13 when he left Co
Tipperary.
As frustrating as it is, be glad that some of you have records dating back
to the 1700s.
Good luck,
Scott

Hi,
Just signed on to this list, and hope someone can help. I am looking for
Patrick Casey b. abt 1830 in Ireland, and his wife, Mary. He arrived in
US abt 1853. They lived in MD and PA. Their son, also Patrick, b. 1861
in Johnstown Pa. He married Mary Halligan in 1887. They had 2 known
children, Margaret and Edward. Mary died in 1897, and Patrick remarried
in 1905 to Julia Kenney.
I just found Patrick and Julia on the 1910 census living in New Haven,
CT. Does anyone have any information on this couple?
Thanks,
Donna Kinney

I am digging for info and found this.
In a KY book Rev. soldiers lists:
Kenton Co. Ky Joseph Casey.
and as pioneer soldiers
Joseph Casey, Samuel Casey and William Casey
Can't identify name of book.
A Capt. Benjamine Logan mentions Ky 1779
William Casey and David Hawkins
I seem to recall this may have been a law suit.
Between 1728 - 1863 , if listed as fom Virginia
Could be any of the areas listed below.
Any part of Indiana from 1781 to statehood 1816 could be Virginia.
* Ky 1781 could be Va.
Md. 1775 to statehood 1792 could be Va
* NC 1728 " 1779
"
Pa. 1752 " 1786
"
Tenn 1760 " 1803
"
William listed as from Va. birth 1767 ( near NC border) - 1837 Lawrence
Co.
Ky.
Fairfax Co. Va across Border line from Welks Co. NC
He was listed as Halifax Co. Va ( possibly North Ohio Border)

Just a couple of observations...
Fairfax Co., VA is located in the northeast corner of Virginia on the
border
across the border from Maryland (as opposed to "across the border
from
Welks
(Wilkes?) Co. NC). I believe this would hold true regardless of the
timeframe under consideration. However, Halifax Co., VA is on the southern
border of Virginia adjoining North Carolina.
The Joseph Casey you mention can be found on the 1840 census, Kenton Co. KY
as a Rev War pensioner, his exact age cited as 78.
The William Casey is the "Col. William Casey" for whom Casey Co. KY was
named and whose activities are pretty well documented. There are various
Virginia counties reported as his birthplace, depending on the reference,
and various years for his birth.
- The book, Colonial Men and Times, says that William Casey was a native
of Frederick Co., VA. Not confirmed that he was actually born there.
- Lyman Draper's manuscript says Augusta County was place of birth.
- S. Bassett French's Biographical Sketches says Frederick County was place
of birth. (However, Frederick Co. and Augusta Co. were adjacent at one
time.)
- Casey Family Assn. site has Bedford Co., VA - not sure where this info
came from -- possibly because one John Casey was on the militia rolls in
Bedford Co. in 1758. Maybe it was assumed that this was William's father
because his father was said to be a John Casey (more in the Draper MS about
this.) Not sure about the connection with the Bedford Co. Casey.
On Oct. 10, 1774, William Casey as "a youth," participated in the Battle of
Point Pleasant (Mason Co., WV).
In 1777, this William Casey was on the payroll of Benjamin Logan's militia
company in KY along with Sgt. Hugh Leeper.
I have that William's death occurred either in 1816 or 1820 (again
depending
on source--the Draper MS gives 1816-- at Adair Co., KY.
There is much more in the literature about this Col. William Casey. At the
same time, there are several points of conflicting information about his
ancestry and relatives. Would love to get it all sorted out someday :-)

My Casey was a mill owner or operator in Baltimore (or suburb) in early
l800's with children Thomas and Sarah. Thomas moved to Cincinnati at an
early age and married Hancock. Sarah married Young. Have been unable to
trace their parents and any clues appreciated.

I am searching for my great grandfather's birthplace.. I don't know the
place of his birth or the date but that he lived in St Louis at 22nd and
Cass avenue. He had three children Thomas, Ann and Katie. I haven't been
able to find out anything else about him. Any help will be appreciated.

His name would be a good starting place.
His spouse's name might help also.

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty, some
are dull, some have weird names...all are different colors...but they all
have to learn to live in the same box!
