Researcher Miles Sandin is descendant of the Pasquotank Co. NC Caseys. I
have his Casey Chart. Miles descends from Rebecca Casey>James Casey>Willis
Casey who died In Pasquotank 1825. Willis Casey Will of 1824 is where I find
my first document that started my research into my Dempsey Casey Sr. b. 1762
might be connected.
Dempsey Sr. 's son Dempsey m. Mary Chancy, the granddaughter of Willis via
his daughter Sarah Casse/Casey m. Edm. Chancy. I wondered how they met:)
The Pasquotank Co. Caseys passed down the name Dempsey. Willis's son Dempsey
b.1789-1810. Bland Bible Records , a newspaper report of his death and
Casey/Rowe Bible records confirm. Willis' brother James m. Sarah Stafford
had a son Dempsey b. 1817 d. 1821.
Then my family letter says John and Jemima Casey were the parents of Dempsey
Casey born April 1762. Willis Caseys brother John Casey abt. 1751-54 m. a
Dorcas Scott. I needed to eliminate that John Casey and Dorcas from the
docs. I was finding on a John Casey .
John Casey 1790 Will in Pasquotank , wife Dorcas(her Will states her brother
is Thos. Pritchard), sons Dempsey , William and Arthur, da. Page, wife of
Wm. Spears, granddaughter Penne Spears.
John Casey gives each son land, a bible and a HAT. Dempsey Casey 1793 Camden
Co. deed states Dempsey is a Hatter.
This William d. 1836 had three sons from the census, but in 1851 a John
Hinton suit speaks of William, his wife Mariam(Stafford) and two sons John
and Dempsey. Thomas mentioned but not sure if he was a son from the wording.
Dempsey is alive in 1845 but dead by the time of this suit. My Currituck
Dempsey b. 1762 died by the end of June 1814 and his son Dempsey b. 1798
left NC in 1826 after Mary Chancy died and married Dicy Martin and had a
daughter by April of 1828. Was listed in Calhoun TN as a Sadler after the
first list of businessman there. Found an entering McMinn County in 1827
for a Casey in the online records for that County and he is listed in McMinn
Co. census in 1830, 1840 and in Greene Co. IN in 1850. 1860 in Raglesville
Indiana and is buried there in 1864.
There are records in Perquimans in 1821 Militia and in 1826 the sale of
Hertford property by a Dempsey Casey, a house built by a Dempsey Casey in
the 1820 in Hertford.Dempsey jr. of Currituck m. Mary Chancy by Feb. of
1821. Their da. Sarah Elizabeth was born Dec. 1821. Was this another Dempsey
or Currituck Dempsey Jr...don't know.
There are deeds in Pasquotank dated 1784 that show there was also a elder
son John that John Sr. left land to. By 1792 John Sr. dead and so is John
Jr. and the property is given to William and Arthur. This is the short
version of the research Tim. A portion of the land mentioned is confirmed
moreso in John Casse 1790 Pasquotank Will and in Arthur Casse 1795
Will.Arthur has Dempsey his brother as Exec.
Dorcas Casse Will Dec. 1795 three months after Arthur's does not mention
anything connecting her to this John Casey and family, but a suit brought by
Mathias Madren in her behalf of rent due her by Arthur Casse's estate, does
confirm .
Only Dempsey in the area is one that Shows up in Camden in the 1790 census
and a 1793 deed .The Deed is signed Dempsey and Elizabeth Casey. Dempsey Sr.
m. Elizabeth Crafts of Portsmouth in Sept. of 1789. I cannot find another
Dempsey other than Currituck Dempsey Casey. In 1799 he buys Pasquotank land
formerly called Dogwood Ridge, that originally belonged to Solomon Sawyer.
Theory now:
Thomas Sawyer Will 1750 , four daughters are mentioned , second one Jemimia.
1764 Will abstract of the widow of Thomas Sawyer, Elizabeth unk. who
remarried a Burgess....mentions same daughters and now Jemima has married a
Casey. Dempsey and Elizabeth name their first two children with her maiden
name as their middle names, Thomas Crafts Casey and Sarah Crafts Casey.
Dempsey and Elizabeth name their last two children b. 1809 Frederick Sawyer
and Lovey Sawyer Casey-twins. Never before in our Casey research that began
in the 1970's has the Sawyer name came up other in those children's name.
That is when the Sawyer research began the theory that the above could be
the parents with Jemima death and John remarrying. Yes, Margaret Casey, the
twin of Dempsey Casey b. 1798 m. Daniel Padrick and his mother was Phoebe
Sawyer, but that marriage was in 1818 , nine years after the last twins of
Dempsey and Elizabeth were born.
Tim, there are Casey/Carseys in Pasquotank that are not mentioned on
Sandin's chart. I find a William Carsey m. to Ann Pendleton in 1714 in a
Will abstract. Believe there is a Caleb Casey that shows up in that same
time frame. Willis Casey 1745-1825 Parents were Thomas and Ruth. Thomas
Casse Will 1780 confirms. The Bland Bible records show an Enoch and Miriam
Casey as Thomas Casey's .parentage, but no data on them at all.
Records show :
1704 John and Mary Casey were transported in by John Upton. Deeds only
mention Mary from 1714 with her attorney.
1753 in Pasquotank prct. Hannah Kelly sueing for support of her illigitmate
child and John Casey agrees to pay 6 pounds per year for maintain said
child.
John CASSAY in 1758 recording a mark of an under keel in each ear for his
son John .
1759 John Marchant sells land which is now Camden Co. to one John
Casey.Proved by the oath of Tulle Sawyer.
This all proves there was a John Casey that was not the John Casey abt. 1751
that was Willis Casey's brother. Actually I believe 1704 John is dead by
1714 so we have another John Casey who is not accounted for but could be the
John Casey of 1790 Will
Dead in on proving anything on this last information .I have asked a male
Casey of my Dempsey Casey line to do a DNA at my cost and he said he would
and then thought about it and declined. Research is the only way I have left
.
I have not traced the Pasquotank Willis Casey leaving NC. I have a
Pasquotank Willis Casey 1791 Will , wife Elizabth son Willis Edward ,
daughter Margaret Ives, if both die without issue then his land is to go to
Eula West and Ora Baily, the daughters of Lycygus(?) West and James E.
Baily.
Tim, if you need more details or documentation please don't hesitate to ask.

Alicia
Why do you think Dempsey maybe connect to the Pasquotank Co NC Casey's ??
Willis Casey was there in Pasquotank Co NC I think I found him in the
census, I believe Wilson Casey who died in IL is connected to Willis
Casey.
I would have to find my notes. This is my opinion. Need to compare some
notes on Willis Casey and Wilson Casey where we can find them in the
census.
I think there was also an Aaron Casey found with Wilson or Willis Casey in
TN.
