I've been following this the last few days, and not sure if the Casey DNA effort is
the same as the DNA registry for genealogists in general. My connection to the Casey name
is for an adopted friend (MA origin). I personally have no connection to the Casey name.
From my understanding the point of it is to find other links to your family name(s) by
using DNA (cost $200) and must be from a male member of the family. It is then registered
(that part I am not clear on at this time) and then hopefully the DNA from other
researchers will match up to yours.
However, my interest in the DNA project is a bit different than most. My father's
father was found as an orphan on the streets of New York City at the age of 5, time frame
was 1895. It was common to find deserted children then. He was sent to an orphanage
where he was given a name by the nuns, and stayed there until he ran away at age 12. He
was once asked by a family friend where his family came from and he broke down in tears.
He died at the age of 81 never knowing. It is our hope to find those missing links. And
who knows ~ maybe there is a Casey lurking in our shadows!

I'm wondering if anyone from the List has experience and can explain how
the DNA research/test helps the researcher. Are the results in terms
that a "regular" person will understand and in turn be able to use? If
they are able to use, how do they use it? I'm guessing there are a few
Casey families that have been traced via DNA and if your results match,
you can say you belong to such origins?
I guess it's safe to say that such testing/research will not help when
your brick wall is a lack of recorded vitals.
Thank you,
Scott
