Mary,
You were asking about outlaws in the Casey family's. There was a Burt
Casey who was supposed to have been an outlaw, Randolph's line. And
there was a William Casey from Newton Co. that was a murderer. This one
is quite a story. To be brief, he planned this for a year to kill this
guy for his gold. He got caught, then his family bribed the jailer with
$5,000 to let him escape. After quite a spell he got caught again and
was sentenced to hang. I don't know whether he did or not. But this is
well documented.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have connections to some Casey's from Salem, Massachusetts, -
we think they originally came from Killarney Kerry Ireland - atleast we know
Thomas Casey married Ellen (Ryan) in Ireland and she was from Killarney.
The year about 1810'-1820 birth, One of the sons we know about is Michael
T. Casey they came in about 1849-1860 and he married Johanna Heffernan.
I also have a copy of the coat of arms - my brother has the original, was
handed down to him by my father and from his father. It has red chevron - I
think that is what they call it , and three birds heads, also a hand with
wheat. common maybe I do not know enough about the coat of arms to say.
This family seems to be hiding on me, I can not find one relative that will
claim us. We do not know much about this family because my Grandfather
George William Casey Sr. left my father when his was only 6 months old so we
never grew up knowing anyone on that side of his family and my father is
getting up in years and would like to make contact with some of his family.
So if anyone can help us it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in
advance for anything you can do.
Thanks,
Kathy

Hi Buddy and Mary, Benton County Ark is where Bentonville, Cherokee City,
Siloam Springs, Springtown, many more and of course the big Wal-Mart
headquarters for Arkansas is located, the northwest section of Arkansas that
borders the Oklahoma line. There were Casey's there in 1840. Thanks Sharon
Gail (BOHANNAN) GRAY:
I am responding to your reply to my msg re a photo question re outlaws.
I am very interested in exchanging info with you. I believe we may have
at least something that matches. Not sure what as yet.
Uriah C. CASEY married Mary Jane BOHANON (B: Jul 1843/1844, in AR). She
was his third wife. He, Uriah, had a son, George Washington CASEY, who
married a sister of Mary Jane, Sarah Canzada BOHANAN (b: 1852, Newton
County, AR). I have their parents as John J. "Ibe" and Elizabeth BOHANAN,
both born in TENN. Don't believe I know which county.
My CASEYs are from Roane and McMinn County, TENN. At least the ones I've
found and can prove.
Can you give me the dates on Nancy Ann CASEY and Missouri Adeline CASEY?
And what are the dates and place of birth on your James CASEY? In what
county in Tenn was he born? I have various lines who spent time in MO,
though I've never had cause to research LaClede County, MO. What are some
details on your great grandmother and her sister, Missouri Adeline CASEY?
Re the spelling of BOHANNAN. I have found this name spelled in so many
different ways I don't know how it was "really" spelled. Many of my
ancestors could not read or write so I am sure census takes and "whoever"
wrote the name however it sounded to them. I believe they were related
though the name is spelled various ways - so please don't be put off by
the fact that my research has come up with different spellings than
yours.
Do you have any HAMs, DOOLINs, and/or ROBINSONs in your lineage anywhere?
Any other info on your BOHANNANs? Perhaps there is further "mixing" with
my CASEYs and other lines.
I know my "outlaw" DOOLIN info is true. I'm not sure about any other
info. As you said, so much of the info is oral history. It's quite
possible my association with any Jesse JAMES photo was really someone
else - wherever the photo is.
Does anything match? Would love to exchange info. I would love to fill in
some blanks in my charts.
Thank you for responding.

Hi Buddy,
I'm responding to your query re Benton County, AZR, and Clinton County,
IL.
What state is AZR? Without looking at a map, I believe there is a Benton
County, Arkansas. I'm talking about the county in which the state capital
is located, Little Rock (?). I've not found any CASEYs in my line in that
county. Supposedly my great, grandfather DURHAM died in that county. I am
told he died in a hospital there and was buried in a pauper's grave
before two of his sons even found out he'd been ill. They were none too
pleased with their stepmother, so the story goes. In my research I've
found that that particular graveyard has long since been covered over
with asphalt and cement.
I've not found anyone from any of my particular lines in the State of
Illinois, though I know there is one CASEY line that lived in that state.
It's not a line I've researched.
Most of the CASEYs of the CFA are of a different line than my CASEYs.
I'm sorry I can't be of any assistance.

Mary,
I am descended from Caseys in MO., Nancy Ann Casey, my great-grandmother and
her sister Missouri Adeline both married Bohannan brothers.
Now my dad always told me that the Caseys were related to the Jesse James
gang, and other Casey online cousins have been told the same thing. I have
not devoted much time to researching this, but do suspect some truth
somewhere in the oral history, since other researchers have been told the
same. I would be interested in sharing. Nancy's parents were James Casey and
Monerva rodgers, orignally from TN. The first four children were born in TN,
the rest in and around LaClede Co. MO.
Gail (Bohannan) Gray
Buddy Casey and all, have any of you CASEY researchers out there a Margaret
CASEY in your Tree?
The one who in 1844 married Hicks MARTIN in Forsyth Co. GA? I believe her
to be the child of Isaac CASEY seen on the 1840 US CENSUS living then in
Forsyth Co., GA. IS this the Isaac CASEY who married a Dicey we think
HENDERSON perhaps who once lived in Spartanburg, SC?
Thanks for any help at all.
Gail

Hi,
I have been told there is a photo of my great grandmother CASEY sitting
on a horse that belonged to Jesse James. Further, I have been told that
Jesse was holding the reins of the horse. I have been unsuccessful in
finding a photo of my great grandmother CASEY sitting on anyone's horse.
Some relatives to whom I've spoken have said they saw the photo, but no
one remembers where they saw it and don't know where the photo is today.
Do you?
My great grandmother's name was Elender "Ellie" (HAM) (CASEY) SMITH. Her
parents were Daniel E. and Malinda (DOOLIN) (WOODWARD) HAM. Malinda, one
of my great, great grandmothers, was a half-sister of William "Wild Bill"
DOOLIN - from a different mother. One of Malinda's daughters "Ellie" was
married to my great grandfather, Austin Allen CASEY, and mother of my
grandfather, William Grant CASEY. I believe that the "Allen" of my great
grandfather, Austin Allen CASEY, was from the name of his uncle, (Wesley)
Allen CASEY, brother of Ambler (b: 1842), husband of Chaney (WOODWARD)
CASEY. Allen was another son (besides Ambler (1842)) of Moses and
Elizabeth (COE) CASEY, son of Ambler (1790) and Polly (ELLISON) CASEY.
I have been told that all kinds of "outlaws" stayed at Daniel E. and
Malinda HAM's house all the time. I've never published anything about
these "stories", including never "publishing" the info in this msg,
because I can't necessarily prove them. I would love to be able to prove
lots of "stories" I've been told. Since "Wild Bill" DOOLIN was a brother
of Malinda and an uncle to Ellie, and William was an outlaw, I am certain
at least some parts of some of the stories I've been told are at least
partially true. I also believe this DOOLIN lineage is related to
ROBINSON, especially since a ROBINSON is listed in a Bible that belonged
to Daniel E. HAM, one who married an ESSEX.
Does anyone "out there" know anything about a photo of a woman sitting on
a horse, in a group of outlaws? It may have been William "Wild Bill"
DOOLIN's horse or the horse of anyone in that "gang." It's even possible
it was truly Jesse JAMES. I don't know.
Does anyone "out there" know anything about a Malinda DOOLIN being
married to a WOODWARD? I know she was from info in Daniel E. HAM's Bible;
i.e., Malinda's last name was WOODWARD when she married Daniel E. HAM,
and per the same source Malinda had a daughter, Mary Ann WOODWARD.
However, I have been unsuccessful in determining the name of Malinda
DOOLIN's first husband, a WOODWARD.
I realize I am asking for info that isn't direct CASEY info. However, it
is re lines strongly connected to Ambler and Polly (ELLISON) CASEY's
lineage. In my own research I have found proof of other lines in with
info re CASEYs - or other lines on which I do research.
I am looking for info re WOODWARD, DOOLIN, ROBINSON that relates to any
of my ancestors I have listed in this msg. And I'd love to have a copy of
the photo of my great, great grandmother sitting on some outlaw's horse -
whoever he was. Of course I'd love to know who he was. Even speculation
can help find proof.
I have lots of info re these lines so I don't necessarily need general
info re them. I've been unable, thus far, to determine/prove the
connection to my lines.
Hope my msg makes sense.
Always looking for proof/source -
Thanks much.

Mary E. Casey < Raymond Perry CASEY < William Grant CASEY < Austin Allen
CASEY < Ambler CASEY
< Moses CASEY < Ambler CASEY (1790)
I seldom mention anything prior to Ambler CASEY (1790) because I have
thus far been unsuccessful in finding any proof as to who his parents
were. All info re my CASEY lineage was passed around and even published
for so many years, 50-70, that I don't wish to anyone inaccurate info.
Hi,
Does anyone "out there" have or know of anyone who has a photo of an
ancestor (male) with a wife who was supposedly a Native American princess
- and is dressed that way in the photo? It could be either a CASEY
ancestor or some related line.
I have been researching all my lines for many years. I had a CASEY uncle
who died a couple of years ago in his 80s. He told me several "stories."
My research has proven that most of his "stories" were inaccurate. I do
not believe my uncle purposefully lied to me. I believe others gave him
inaccurate info, he forgot or got stories confused over the years, info
given him was exaggerated, not of the generation(s) or lines he thought,
and/or the locations he thought, etc. Bottom line, most of his "stories"
turned out to be inaccurate in one way or another. However, I am very
grateful for his info because I started with nothing and he at least gave
me ideas of locations in which to conduct my research. My research has
proven my lineage; i.e., records.
This uncle told me that when he was either a "kid" or "younger" he saw a
photo of someone in our CASEY lineage - a grandfather, great grandfather,
whoever, with his wife - supposedly a Native American princess. My uncle
said the princess was all dressed up "like an Indian princess." In my
research I have found cousins who also saw the photo. However, no one can
remember exactly who it was, where the photo was taken, where they saw
the photo, or any idea as to who might have the photo today.
I have researched all kinds of records back several generations on all my
lines and have found no proof of any Indian heritage, much less any photo
of anyone dressed as an Indian princess.
I have had several "cousins" from other lines (other than CASEY) who also
say, and have stories, about us (me) having Native American blood. There
are so many stories that I am sure there is some Native Indian blood in
there somewhere - just very difficult to prove, especially since Native
Americans were still being killed in the early 1900s simply because they
were Native American. People back then did their best to hide any Native
American heritage.
It is always possible the princess in the photo my uncle saw was not a
CASEY but someone from one of my many connecting lines and the info just
got confused over time - as was pretty much everything else people have
told me as I found them during my research.
I have not found anyone who has any proof of any kind of Indian heritage
in any line, except for some info re a piece of land in Newton County,
AR, in my CASEY line. I've written land authorities about that piece of
land and they never respond. I've checked out web sites re land and the
certificate number is nowhere to be found, though referenced in the book
w/the land record info.
I do not do Native American research, though I hope to one day. I did do
a bit just to see if I could "luck out". However, as with all my lines -
no such luck. It's going to be difficulty research.
Does anyone "out there" know anything about a photo of an Indian
princess, with possibly a CASEY husband? If not a CASEY husband, does
anyone have a photo of an Indian princess with a man of a different line?
Because of all the confusion, it is quite possible the photo was not of
someone in my CASEY line - but of another.
Any info re any such photo would be greatly appreciated.
