Hello:
As a Casey searcher,(sometimes, Cobb, Board, Bird (my GGM was a Cobb, married
three times and widowed three times) and Goad, Lewis and Taylor (Mother's
lines).
I also have a little data on the WV Foreman line (my gr aunt married a
Foreman).
(oddly enough, so did my GGaunt on the other side).
To the point, I have a copy of a book on the WV Birds in Kanawha and Roane
Counties and possibly can shed a little light on that branch.
My Casey research has stalled with my GGF, John Henry Casey (there seems also
to be a spelling Casa) in Kanawha Co. WV Marriage Book 1, pg 64 where his
parents were noted as William Casa and Mary ______ and his place of birth was
given as Russell Co. VA in 1848.
Does a William Casa or Casey from Russell Co. VA ring any bells anywhere?
John Casey
Summerfield, FL
(the screen name came when aol refused everything and the cat came in and I
typed in her name in exasperation. aol took that!
I read with interest when I saw the Bird name my line of descent comes from
John Bird and Tabitha Taylor which were in Barren Co KY. I believe some of
our Casey lines were in Barren Co KY are near the Barren river. I am sure
Randolph Casey's son Isaac was there as he was sherriff of Barren Co KY at
one time I read that some where in my notes.
My Bird line moved from SC to Williamson Co TN to Barren Co KY to Union and
Johnson Co IL.
I do have a large file on the Bird Family.

Hello, I can't be of any help to you but perhaps you may be able to help me.
At least I sure hope so.
I have a Margaret Cordilia Casey Martin buried in Mt. Zion, GA Carroll Co.
in the Methodist Church cem. Her husband Hicks Martin named that Church.
I then was able to obtain my own copy of the Thomas Martin family book done
by Jenny Martin Fagg.
I proved my linage into this family and have been accepted into the D.A.R
under Thomas Martin
Ok now my Margaret Cordilia Casey is said to be the child of Dicey ?? we
think perhaps Henderson as this name is used by them as a first name for a
child of Margaret and Hicks Martin, later on.
And her Father was said to be Issac Casey of Spartenburg SC.
I noted that you had done some research in Spartenburg SC on Casey so my big
huge question is this.............................
Did you happen to collect anything at all that may prove helpful to me in my
Casey Line at all??
Thanks a ton for listening to me rattle on and on.......

In searching in Georgia I came across your Elisha and Ausburn/Osborn in
Campbell Co. in 1840. Saw Elisha in Walton Co. in 1830. I may have more info
but I will have to check my files. If you would like to contact me my email
address is vondad(a)aol.com.
There is only one Bird listed in the Newton County Cemetery book - Elmer Bird
and there are no dates shown. He is in Shiloh Cemetery. There are no
Rumsays. I did not find either Birds or Rumsays in census records 1850 -
1910 except in 1880 there is a John Bird age 54 born in Tennessee living in
household of Jefferson Villines. If they were in Newton County they must have
come and gone between censuses. Of course census and cemetery are the only
sources I checked.

Pat,
The New England Casey's are near and dear to my heart (no offense all you
Southern Casey's) so I'm taking the time to try and figure out this lineage
from your letter. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of it!
Michael Casey and wife Bridget (last name?) were from Ireland. Bridget was
born in 1853. They were married October 19 (1924? 1874?) in New York, New
York.
Cornelious CASEY was born 1876 to Michael and Bridget CASEY, in Brooklyn, NY.
He married Anne (last name?) who was born in 1874 in Liverpool England.
Mary Elizabeth CASEY was born January 15, 1902 in Peekskill, NY to Cornelious
and Anne CASEY.
Is this all correct? I'll keep an eye out for your family since this is the
area and surname I search.

Let me add my two cents to this Casey "controversy".
Several years ago I tried tracking the Casey's in So. Carolina. My ancestor,
Elisha, was supposed to have been born in So. Carolina, though he lived later
on in Georgia. One of my cousins told me that our Casey's came from
Spartanburg Co. Some of my research on Casey is thus:
NAME YEAR COUNTY
Aaron 1790 Spartanburg
1800 Spartanburg
1810 Spartanburg
Jesse 1790 Spartanburg
1800 Not found
1810 Spartanburg
1820 Spartanburg
This may be old news to you'all, but thought I'd throw it into the mix. I
show others, but these are the names that have been mentioned in this latest
digest.
Now, to CASEY in Newton Co. AR
This is very interesting to me because I may have some connections here. My
Elisha CASEY had a brother, Ausburn (Ausborn, Osborn) J. CASEY. In 1850 they
both lived in Campbell Co., Ga. Elisha (b. c. 1814) married Ally B. PATRICK
in Campbell Co., in 1835. Their children were: Joseph G., Ester Angeline,
Elizabeth Clementine, Jonathan O.J., Martha A.S., and Mary C. Ausburn (b. c.
1804) was married to Elizabeth and their children were:Wm J., Mary A., Rhoda
A., Elisha B., Orsborn (Ausburn) J., Elizabeth J. and John A.
In 1860 both these families moved to Lafayette Co. AR. By this time
Elisha's daughter Elizabeth Clementine (my ancestress) had married Andrew
Jackson RUMSEY, and along with the Casey's came A.J. "Jack"'s family, Francis
Pinkney RUMSEY and his wife Rhoda BIRD RUMSEY I believe the brothers , Jesse
George and Curry BUTLER, may have also come at the same time. My
aforementioned cousin told me that she was sure the RUMSEY's and BIRD's went
to Newton Co. AR, which brings me to the info from Mary Jo and Wanda, who
mention Buffalo Cemetery.
Have you seen any RUMSEY or BIRD in Buffalo Cemetery?
I would appreciate any info you have on Newton County as pertaining to these
families.
Thanks,
Peggy

Barbara,
The only New York CASEY I have is William Chandler Casey, son of William
Bryon Casey and Cornelia Matilda Beare, born 28 Sep 1838 in New York.
William Chandler's siblings were all born in Middletown, Middlesex,
Connecticut as was William Bryon. Cornelia was born in New York so they may
have gone there for the oldest child's birth so that she could be with her
family. William Bryon CASEY was the son of James CASEY and Susan CHANDLER.

Thanks Carey but the Aaron Casey I am looking for would be much older than
that. Probably born in early 1740s.

There was an Aaron Casey in Hardeman County, Tennessee in the 1830's.
He was born about 1813 in Tennessee according to the census. He is in
Dallas County, Arkansas in the 1850 census. I doubt it's the same one.

Yes, this is what "they" say but I'm looking for evidence, documentation, or
anything that resembles proof. The Aaron Casey who was supposedly the
husband of Mary "Polly" Wayne is nowhere to be found. He is not the Aaron
Casey in Spartanburg Co., SC (that Aaron died 1825 leaving wife Sarah and no
son named Jesse) so where was he? There is no trace of him in Roane Co., TN
with his son Jesse and his grandson Jesse E. Casey. We do not know when or
where Jesse Casey was born since he did not live long enough to appear on a
census that would show that information. We do know that Jesse E. Casey was
born in Georgia ca 1797. I have been to East Tennessee and searched all
records that I could find in Roane and Morgan Counties and have copies of all
Casey court records but there is no mention of an Aaron Casey. Jesse E. Casey
appears on the 1830 Morgan County, TN census (1820 East Tennessee census was
destroyed or at least is missing) but his father Jesse does not and although
I have no proof I assuming he died before that date. In 1830 Jesse E. Casey
does not have an older female in his household who could be his grandmother
Mary "Polly" Wayne. Turner Casey (supposedly Jesse E's cousin) however has a
female 60 to 70 in his household. Many unanswered questions and lots of work
that needs to be done!
I have researched Jesse E. Casey for 30 years and have found nothing that
says his middle name was Elax. Do you know the source of that name? I've
tried to find a source for the last 20 years. All I ever get is "so and so
told me".
I know it sounds like I am trying to reinvent the wheel but I just can't
accept anything as fact that can't be backed up with some sort evidence or
documentation. Speculation is good because it gives one an idea about where
to start researching but it should not be accepted as fact.
Well, I'm on that soapbox again and I'm sorry. All I really want to know is
can anyone tell me anything about an Aaron Casey who could possibly be the
father of Jesse Casey born on an unknown date in an unknown location! :-)
Since Jesse's son was born ca 1797 Jesse must have been born by at least
1777. Any help would be appreciated.

Mary Jo,
I have always wondered just what the "E" in Jesse E. Casey's name was and
have always suspected that it was Elax. however, I have Jesse Clinton
Casey's death certificate and it states that Jesse C.'s father's name was
Jesse Asburn Casey, information given by his son George W. Casey. But Jesse
did have false information, such as the place of his birth, Jersey Co. Ga.,
no such place.
And yes, Mary "Polly" <Wayne> Casey is buried in Buffalo Cemetery. I have
been there and have a picture of her stone.
Wanda
Who is John Casey (who married Drucilla Hill) the son of?
Who is Abner Casey (who married Nancy Williams) the son of?
Vonda,
I have that Jesse E. Casey's grandfather was Aaron Casey who married Mary
"Polly" Wayne, cousin of Mad Anthony Wayne (Rev. War General). Mary died
in 1845, buried in Buffalo Cem, Newton Co, Ark next to her grandson Jesse
Elax Casey.

I think that the spelling might also be "Casa" which seems to have been the
way my ggf (John Henry Casey (Casa) seems to havebeen lsited in the mariage
records of Kanawha Co, WV on January 1, 1869. Marriage Book No. 1, page 64
according to my records.
He was listed as born in ____________, ____,1848 in Russell Co., VA, parents
William Casa and Mary _______________.
At that point, to date, I have hit a wall. Next step will be Family Tree
Maker's 1850 VA census CD.

Jesse Casey's father I have yet to find that Aaron. Information on any Aaron
Casey (other than the one in Spartanburg Co., SC) would be appreciated.

Still looking for any info on my ggg grandfather Sinclair Casey b. 1799
Mason Co., VA/WV. No birth record. He was listed as 61 yrs old in the 1860
Census. He married Emily Mays also of Mason Co., VA/WV. I have all his
offspring with dates but nothing before him. Story says his father came
from Ireland with two sons. The father supposedly married a Shawnee lady.
Which would have been Sinclair's mother. First name spellings might be
corrupted to Cinclair, Sinkler, last name spellings are sometimes found on
this family as Cazy, Cazey. Any help would be appreciated.
