Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have been in a similar situation so can give you my experience and you can
use it as you think best.
-Make sure your relative is comfortable with the taping and photographing. I
have found that the taping is not usually a problem, especially if the
recorder is unobtrusive but the videoing can be more of a problem. If the
relative is not comfortable with it, don't insist and don't do it.
-Have a list of topics/dates/people you would like to discuss and try to ask
open-ended questions about them. Don't ask "Do you remember Aunt Sally?"
but, instead, ask "What do you remember about Aunt Sally?" or "What would
Aunt Sally think about (insert name or topic)?" Don't try to cover the
topics in the order you listed them. Have a sheet of paper that you can
check things off on so you can come back to them later.
-If your relative gets on a topic that he/she enjoys talking about, go with
it and don't worry about your original list.
-Dates from different relatives sometimes disagree. Try to get other
relevant information about locations/events etc that will help to narrow down
facts to be checked later.
-If the relative gets tired, let him/her rest and take a break. Be willing
to come back at another time.
-Enjoy it! You don't get very many chances like this.
Good luck.
John

I am in the very interesting yet somewhat daunting position of
interviewing a 97 year old relative. The family wants me to tape his
comments and take photographs. Does anyone have any idea on how to
approach this responsibility? I am looking for advice and/or sources to
read up on. I have about a month or so to prepare.
Thanks,
Russell D. Casey

Hello, could someone tell me who this Randolph Casey belongs to , on the 1850
census of Crawford county Ark. shows, Randolph Casey 18, from Ill. and
Lucinda 16, from Ar. Thanks Sharon
I believe the J C Casey is a half-brother to my father, Jackson Monroe
Casey. Tentative information I have indicates J C Casey was married at least
three times. One was a Nancy "Nannie" Walden. Ages and marriage date for
both are the same. Please reply to rcasey(a)koyote.com

Buddy,
There was Casey's in ILL. As a matter of fact Zadoc Casey , 1796-1862, was
Lt. Gov. of the state. He was a dec. of Abner. If your ancestors were from
ILL, then he very well may be your's.
