It appears there are a lot of you who have done a lot of reach on the Caseys
and might be able to point me in the right direction.
I have been trying to locate information about my g-granfather, Andrew
Jackson (Andy) Casey, b. 27 Sep 1862, m. Mollie Corley in Lamar Co., Texas,
d. 28 May 1934. Some family sources say he came from Mississippi, but they
provide no county name. I'm in the process of checking out Lamar County,
and am finding a number of Caseys there. I seem to hitting brick walls so
far.
Any information you could provide would give me some clues.

Someone just recently posted a message about Federal Pension Lists on Tripod.
I thought it was such a great site I bookmarked it only to discover that
Tripod does not let you bookmark their sites. You have to type in the URL
manually each time. Consequently, I lost that URL. Could the person send
that information again ?

Jack,
Here is the message that posted the URL. Thanks for bringing that to

Anyone own a John CASEY, died 1867, in Ireland, buried in Co Waterford? We
found a gravestone for him.
Thought he might be connected to the one I am researching: Thomas Casey,
born Athlone, about 1828, migrated to Canada, married, then to Melbourne,

Hi All,
My apologies for my last mst to Wanda Norman.
Obviously it was a msg I should have either totally ignored or at least
waited until I cooled off before I replied.
Wanda gave information I haven't checked. This means I do no know if it
was accurate. It does sound as though it was.
The Jersey County, GA, issue is a mystery. The Jesse Clinton CASEY papers
do give his birth place as Jersey, Georgia. I do not believe it specified
Jersey County or a town named Jersey.
It's been a long time since I reviewed the info re Jesse Clinton CASEY. I
do know I tried to find him and his father. I either did not find a
Jersey County or a town named Jersey in Georgia that would match with
Jesse Clinton CASEY records. Anyway, bottom line, the info in that report
is a mystery.
To my knowledge, no records have been found using that piece of
information.
I do not know why that info was given. I don't believe any researcher I
know of knows why. I am not the only person who has tried to find SOME
record to substantiate the loc re Jesse Clinton CASEY with regard to ANY
kind of Jersey, Georgia.
Definitely Irish,

Mary,
First of all I am not exploding because one I dont know anything about
Ambler , Uriah Casey and I am sure that everyone gets tired of seeing
references to certain publications or manuscripts but let me say this I have
never said anything was a fact and like you I dont just take what I read
from Walter , or Harold to be a fact , I have enought common sense alot like
others on this list to ask questions and get responses and I just dont use
this list to do it. I have seen some lineages in Walters manuscript that are
wrong and I will state the obvious one of Benjamin Casey and Julia Carson
being the father of Col. William Casey he wasnt and I will give anyone a
three page report on it. It is wrong in the manuscript but give these
gentlemen some credit they did it by mail in thier time , they didnt have a
computer to go to KY, SC , MD, VA . I just dont depend on any manuscript I
descend from the Ducketts, Ridgley's, and that is Gen Levi Casey line and
his wife is my gggggg Aunt in my Duckett line so I am able to compare some
notes not counting the Whittens of SC , around Whitmire SC or the Hill
familes of SC.
If there are mistakes on Ambler and others please inform the list what they
are so they can get on the right track. I like you want the correct
information but if our Casey Cousins dont have the information to correct
then they will always be in the dark.
By the way list the copy of Walter E. Casey manuscript mostly dealt with his
family and mine , he put in information given to him he never mentioned in
that manuscript it was the gospel nor did Harold or Lewis or George it was
findings something for you and I to look at and make something out of their
research.
Mary is correct dont take it for the Gospel but dont look at everything you
read is wrong either. I havent researched Jesse Casey family or Ambler Casey
as I have my own opinions of the Christopher Casey line like Mary I have
some questions that haven't been answered.
You take the Nicholas Casey father of Abner Casey I saw what was emailed I
dont disregard it because someone else has that opinion especially when I
cant get past Abner Casey in my own research nor have I tried.
I wonder how many researchers of the Casey family actually know anything
past Abner Casey other than what was handed down , Lewis Casey never did say
who his gg grandfather was did he , he knew that Randolph was his
grandfather.
Walter in his manuscript said it is hard to figure out many of the families
as information is hard to come by.
In closing I would love for some one to correct my line or help me with any
bad information I have been on this list maybe two years and have acquired
alot of notes but documentation is another thing I havent seen much of where
it was found I do tell where I found it right or wrong.
By the way this is not a blast to anyone it is just my total opinion of
Casey facts and information. No harm to meant to anyone.
Tim Casey
Hi guys,
I keep seeing references to writings by Walter E.Casey and Harold Casey
and an unpublished manuscript by a George and Abner Casey. I can't take
it anymore.
Many people are believing these writings.
I have proven that at least three or four generations of CASEYs in these
books are totally incorrect, in my own lineage.
Harold CASEY has died. His son, Robert CASEY, continues to collect and
publish CASEY info. The 1980 Harold CASEY book, which is no longer in
print, used info from the unpublished George and Abner CASEY manuscript.
They used that manuscript as reference material, not as proof!
Even Robert, Harold's son, now knows that much of the info in all those
publications you guys are using as fact are wrong.
Please, please, please, do not use any of those publications or anyone's
information gotten from those publications as any way of proving any
lineage.
They are okay to use as guidelines, as places to look for any kind of
proof/source of your lineage; but they are not okay use AS proof/source.
MUCH OF THE INFO IS WRONG!!!!
If you can't find proof/source of your lineage, keep looking. Please
don't go giving info re your lineage unless it's proven; at least don't
use those publications as your way of proving your lineage. If you do,
the likelihood is that you are passing out wrong info to many, many other
CASEY ancestors.
My lineage is Ambler CASEY > Moses CASEY > Ambler CASEY > Austin Allen
CASEY > William CASEY > Raymond Perry CASEY, Sr. > Mary E. CASEY (that's
me).
The publications you guys are using don't even list Ambler CASEY, my gg
grandfather. They list a Uriah and Allen CASEY with a father of Anthony
CASEY. They say this Anthony CASEY's father was a Uriah CASEY. That whole
lineage is WRONG. There is NO SUCH Anthony CASEY and NO SUCH Uriah CASEY
in those positions. The people who belong in those positions are Moses
CASEY and Ambler CASEY vs Anthony CASEY and Uriah CASEY.
Others I know of have PROVEN that MUCH of the publications used as
proof/source is UNTRUE.
If those writings have been proven totally incorrect re three or four
generations in one particular CASEY line, image how many errors are in
everything else they've written?
My apologies for "exploding." I just get so frustrated because people
publish stuff w/no proof of it. Info re my lineage was wrong for, at an
absolute minimum, 50 years. I'd like to see us all get "on track" and
TRULY PROVE who our ancestors are.
I have NO IDEA who Ambler CASEY's father, my gggggg, is. He may or may
not be a Jesse CASEY. And please don't ask me anything about any Jesse
CASEY who COULD BE Ambler CASEY's (b: 1790) father. I haven't had the
time to RESEARCH that far. It took me forever to prove what I've proven
thus far.
I do know that Ambler CASEY (b: 1790) was very close to one Jesse E.
CASEY. Personally, I BELIEVE Ambler and Jesse E. CASEY were brothers.
However, and this is a very big HOWEVER, I have not PROVEN this.
If we all get on track and truly prove our lineage, maybe we can really
start to put together some pieces of this puzzle. I'd love nothing better
than to know exactly who it was in my ancestry who came from Ireland and
from where in Ireland.
However, nothing has been proven. It would be so wonderful to have it
PROVEN.
Please don't blast me with e-mail msgs. I've simply written here what I
know to be true.

I have read that Abner's middle name was Brooks, but did not know how it was
confirmed. This information would change all that was handed down from the
manuscripts of Walter E. Casey , Harold Brooks Casey, Lewis Casey manuscript
of 1870, Randolphs family history. It seems to me that we Casey researchers
will have to change the fact that Abner Casey was Born in TYRONE CO Ireland
? The name Nicholas is in Peter's line and Nicholas II son of Peter II came
from Ky in the early 1800's to Shawneetown IL. He was left mail but was
never picked up by the article.
Shawneetown IL was the land office for those migrating to the western lands.
I do disagree with the marriage of Nancy Casey to Phillip Grapnel as if this
Grapnel is really Phillip Trapnell Nancy will not be the dau of Abner Brooks
Casey but a daughter of Peter Casey II of KY it is written in the Peter
Casey History of Union Co KY that Nancy Casey m. Phillip Trapnell. This
should be a correction to the Abner line.
I am very happy that someone has shared this information with the list and
we should put our opinions in on this ,
I also dont think the Benjamin Casey that is listed in the email is the son
of Abner Casey as Benjamin Casey who died in 1779 was the son of Peter Casey
I of VA he left 4000 acres of Ky land to his nephew Peter Casey II again
this is stated in the Peter Casey History of Union Co KY.
I have been in contact with some of Randolphs descendants for the 1st time
and they also believe that Abner descends from Nicholas Casey I will have
to check that email again.
I think it is time for opinions here on this research lets get it right.

those listed in the Muster are found the names of ancestors whose
descendants generations later performed great service to the Old
Dominion and to the Nation.

CHAPTER X
page 167
In at least fifteen States of the Union there are families named Casey,
all
descended from Thomas Casey, a settler at Newport, Rhode Island, as
early as 1658. From a short history of the Casey family,The Casey Family
of East
Greenwich, R. I., published in 1927 in connection with the celebration
of the
250th anniversary of the founding of the town. Written by Edward Perch
Casey, we learn that Thomas Casey was born in Ireland about 1637. And
according to a tradition handed down in the successive generations of
the family, Thomas Casey's parents were killed during the Irish
insurrection in 1641. The orphan child was carried by his nurse to
England, whence he emigrated to this country at the age of twenty-one
and located at Newport, of which community he became one of the leading
business men and is mentioned as occupying a place of considerable
social importance for many years. With other citizens

of Rhode Island, including the Charles McCarthy before mentioned, he was
one of the founders of the town of East Greenwich in 1677, and
twenty-five years later he was listed as one of the proprietors of the
common lands in Newport. He died in 1711, leaving three sons, Thomas
(born 1663), Adam (born 1667) and Samuel (born 1675).Austins
Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island.38 Thomas Casey (2) remained in
Newport, where he inherited his fathers estate, but Adam and Samuel
struck out for themselves, settling at Warwick and Kingston, R. I.,
respectively, and these three were the ancestors of several Rhode Island
families of the name. Thomas Casey (2) and his wife, Rebecca, had sons,
John and Edmund, and daughters, Rebecca and Sarah, born at Newport
between 1695 and 1704; Adam Casey and his wife, Mary, had Thomas, Sills,
Edward, Mary and Sarah, born between 1706 and 1718, and Samuel Casey was
the father of Thomas, John, Samuel and Widen, whose births were recorded
between 1716 and 1726.Vital Records of Rhode Island.39

CHAPTER X

In many ways, the Casey's were a remarkable family, and in town books,
probate and land records, parish registers, tax lists, military rolls
and other public records, representatives of successive generations of
Casey's appear for two hundred and fifty years after the original
immigrant came to this country.
Several of the Casey's are mentioned as successful merchants and
shipping
masters in command of vessels trading with Southern ports and the West
Indies. Indeed, we are told that Thomas Casey was one of those famous
ship owners of Narragansett Bay whose enterprise laid the foundations of
Rhode Islands industrial history. The Casey Family of East Greenwich, by
Edward Perch Casey.40 They well preserved the record of the Fighting
Race, for in every generation of the Casey's there have been officers of
the name in the army and the navy, beginning with the Indian war in the

eighteenth century and down even to the present day. One of them, Sills
Casey, born at East Greenwich in 1807, was a distinguished American
soldier. He served with the United States Army in numerous Indian
conflicts on the western frontiers, the Seminal War in Florida, the
Mexican and the Civil Wars, and in two campaigns against the Indians on
the Pacific Coast. It was he who led the forlorn hope at the storming of
Chapultepec, in which he was severely wounded, and he gallantly defended
with his division his position at Fair Oaks, Virginia. He retired in
1868, after forty-two years military service, with the rank of Major
General. Colonel Thomas Lincoln Casey, also a distinguished officer in
the Civil War, Captain Sills Casey of the Navy and Edward P. Casey,
architect of one of the handsomest public buildings in the United
States, the Library of Congress at Washington, were also of this family.
Much more can be said to show what an important American family the
Casey's were, but one searches in vain in New England histories for any
mention of the fact that their immigrant ancestor was an Exile from
Erin, as far back as 279 years ago!

South Carolina was the eighth state to ratify the federal Constitution,
on May 23, 1788. To mollify Piedmont settlers, who demanded increased
representation, the General Assembly agreed in 1786 to move the
capital. Columbia was established as the new seat of government. In
the first federal census of 1790, South Carolina's population of 249,073
ranked 7th. Non whites accounted for 43.7% of the total and were
concentrated
in the low country around Charleston.

I guess I did not explain this well the Abner Casey that married VinCynthia
Jane Reeves is the son of John Casey and Drucilla Hill ,Johns father is
Christopher Casey b. 1754 and I believe that Christopher's father was
Christopher Casey b. 1731 son of Abner Casey of Tyrone Co Ireland. I am very
certain of the lineage from John Casey and Drucilla Hill as they were my
gggg grandparents.
Folks have seen that Christopher Casey b. 1754 is a son of Abner Casey of
Tyrone Co Ireland , I am not so sure he was , I lean more as a grandson as
there were two Christopher Casey's in Spartanburg before 1790 and
Christopher and Aaron witnessed a real estate transaction between Moses and
Christopher in 178?.
Information came from Walter E. Casey manuscript and the Harold Brookes
Casey book.
The problem I am having is Walter E. Casey does not show how he found out
that Christopher Casey was John Casey's father I have seen no document as of
yet. Nor have I seen in my family lines the name Christopher , Levi Casey is
prominent in my line. My gg grndfather was named Levi Casey . My ggg
grandfather John Casey jr. m. Elizabeth Whitten had 17 children never naming
one Christopher . It has me intrigued to say the least.
Tim Casey
Hi rooters,
A fruitful trip to the archives introduced me to my GGGreat
Grandfather Caswell Casey 40. He was found in the 1860 Federal census
for Hamilton County, Tenn., Chattanooga post office. He was enumerated
with Mary 43, last name unknown and two daughters, Elizabeth 12 and
Mary 4 (my GG Grandmother). I have a photo of Caswell from the period
just after the Civil War which had the name Caswell on the back and I
always assumed it was a surname. It's nice to have a name with the
face.
In the household to either side are Caseys that I belive are brothers.
William Casey 31 and Nancy 25 with children Stephen 3 and Mary 1. Also
Henry 23 and wife Sarah 22 with children John 1 and Frances, 3 months.
Any info on these folks would be appreciated and maybe someone out
there is looking for them.
