Thanks for the information, also did it say anything about Levi Casey ,
where he died , or enlisted. I know of the Black Hawk War many Southern
Illinois men enlisted . Zadock Casey that you mention is the son of Randolph
Casey , Interested in more on Levi Casey if you can help.

Hi,
I am new to the Casey list having only recently discovered my Casey
connection. I have a marriage bond in Madison Co., Tn. dated June 12,
1867 between Cullen P. Hopkins and Mary (Mollie) E. Casey. I am
looking for Caseys that may have been in Madison or a surrounding
county during the 1840-1870 period. Cullen was born in Weakley Co. and
grew up in Carroll Co. Any leads would be appreciated.

Were all four brothers, i.e. sons of Abner?

I just finished reading The Overmountain Men by Pat Alderman. He lists
the participants at King's Mountain (the Revolutionary War battle). He
includes the following Caseys:
Benjamin
Levi
Randolph
William
Are Randolph and Levi the sons of Abner Casey? Are the other two
related?

Marriage Bonds and Consents (1786-1810 Mercer Co., KY) by Sanderson:
Trapnall, Phillip and Nancy Casey July 29, 1806
Bondsman: Ben W. Casey
Brides father: Peter Casey writes "Dr. Phillip Trapnall"
Teste: Samuel Casey and Nicholas Casey
HISTORY OF UNION CO, KY
Peter Casey's ancestry were Irish. Three brothers, Benjamin, Nicholas and
another , whose name is not known, came to America before the Rev War.
Oldest brother Benjamin, was a soldier and killed in the War. The next
oldest moved West, and the family lost sight of him. The third was
Nicholas, the ancestor of the Union Co. family. He settled in VA. and was
the father of Peter Casey.
Peter Casey was born in VA and part. in the Rev. War. About the close
of the war he married Nancy Waggener, dau. of Andrew Waggener, who lived
near Fredricksburg in Spottsylvania co. VA. She was born in 1762.
An old scrap from the NY Herald gives the origin of the name Casey, and
compliments the three elder Caseys very highly, and pursues their genealogy
back several generations.
In 1785 Peter Casey superintended a Survey of lands in Union Co., a grant
to which he had been allowed by the GOV for his services in the
Rev.----------------
After his survey he returned to VA., and soon moved to Harrod's Station,
KY, where he was engaged in fighting the Indians sometimes. He held the
office of Capt. and farmed some land and operated a mill. Then he moved to
Union Co.------------
Died near Caseyville, Union Co. KY 12 July 1847, Mrs. Nancy Casey, widow
of Judge Peter Casey. She was born on the 8 Oct, 1763 near Fredericksburg,
VA and about two yrs later parents moved to Mill Creek, Berkley Co. VA.
She was the dau. of Capt. then Major. Andrew Waggener in the Continental
Army of the Rev.
----------------(long history)
The children of this couple were Samuel Casey, who was born in 1787, and
died Dec 22, 1859; Nicholas Casey who died Feb 24 1863, and John Casey, who
died Dec 25, 1867, aged 67. (Does not mention girls) Gives history on
sons.

PEERING INTO THE FUTURE
by Myra Vanderpool Gormley, CG, Co-editor, RootsWeb Review
Recently Mattel, the toy maker (Hot Wheels, Ken and Barbie),
announced it would buy The Learning Company, Inc. Earlier in
1998, The Learning Company purchased Mindscape (producer of
Family Tree Creator) and Broderbund (producer of Family Tree
Maker), and then in December it acquired Palladium Interactive
(producer of Ultimate Family Tree).
What does this mean to genealogists? It appears Mattel is going
to wind up with all of the genealogy toys, so to speak -- owning
the major popular genealogy software programs and the companies
that produce most of the genealogy CDs.
Additionally, the "Wall Street Journal" in its December 17, 1998,
issue announced that CMG Information Services, Inc., will invest
$10 million in Ancestry for a 30 percent stake in that company.
CMG is betting that genealogy is about to make a big breakthrough
on the Web. However, the CMG investors are not talking about
helping you find that long-lost ancestor when they refer to a
"breakthrough." They mean making money.
Where is all this going in 1999? I have as much trouble peering
into the future as I do digging up the past, but it appears to me
that the costs of computer genealogy (software and CDs) are
likely to increase. Moreover, the price of admission to many
genealogy sources on the Web is probably going to go up. Many
surfers are already paying $5 to $10 per month ($60-$120
annually) to have access to various sources or finding aids. Many
onliners are discovering their "free" Web space or e-mail account
comes with hidden prices -- loaded with ads and their names and
e-mail addresses sold to cyber-merchants.
RootsWeb is one of the "Top 25" or so sites on the Internet and
continues to swim against the tide by providing free access to
huge amounts of genealogical data. Yet currently less than three
percent of its users are providing financial support. If RootsWeb
users contributed only $2-$3 per month ($24 to $36 annually)
there would be adequate financing to maintain and build an
incredible genealogical resource. If they don't, the future of
Internet genealogy looks expensive.

There must be a million Thomas Caseys but here goes!
This one was born in Ireland (Co Cork?) in either 1829 or 1830, travelled
to Canada with his parents (Thomas Casey and Mary Brennan) in 1831, worked
as a carpenter and joiner in Ontario, was married to Eliza Kennedy (parents
Edward William Kennedy and Mary Walsh) at St Paul's Toronto in 1850,
travelled to Australia c.1852, moved to Maryborough (Victoria) in 1854,
established the local Fire Brigade and was Mayor nine times, and died in 1919.
Through the kind efforts of someone on the ONTARIO list I was able to
obtain his marriage details.
Thomas' and Elizabeth's children were: Edward Kennedy, William Thomas,
Agnes, George Brennan, Agnes Eliza, Robert Henry, Stephen Ramsay, Frank
Cecil, Matthew Arthur.
I am wondering if any of these Casey names are familiar? I am particlarly
interested in the Irish side - I believe Thomas' sister was Catherine
Casey, who married Downie Strangman in Ireland. This Thomas Casey was
sponsor at my grandfather's baptism in Australia in 1869.
In checking Thomas' details I have downloaded a lot of information about
Caseys in Victoria, Australia, so if you want any lookups let me know. But
please note, my material relates only to Victoria, Australia, not to the
other States e.g. New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, etc.
Cheers

This day I have sent Rootsweb a check for one hundred dollars. So much has
been said on donating to the Rootsweb Gen. Data Coop. lately that anything I
could say now would be redundant. So let's all just dig into our purses a
little deeper and see if we can't make Rootsweb the fully functional FREE
source for genealogical matters and let the PAY companies sniff up a rope, OK
?

homesteaders until they could get settled and come back. The people who kept
