Thanks Jessie
Would you like further details of my CASE family?
BTW, Stockport (where I've finished up, is in Cheshire, England and is less than ten
miles from Old Trafford football ground, although I have not been there. Apparently they
had two brothers (Brian & Jimmy Greenhoff of Barnsley) who played for Man Utd, who
were first cousins of mine through my maternal grandfather. He was the one sho narried
Josephine Elizabeth CASE of Canning Town, West Ha, Essex on Christmas Day 1896.
Her father was born down in Dorset (Poole) and his father in Shaftesbury where the CASE
(Dorset) Button Cottage industry flourished from 1622 to 1890 when automatic button making
machines were imported to England from Belgium, putting thousands of Dorset cottage
industry workers out of business. These people were then helded to emigrate to the New
World of North America, Australia and New Zealand.
At the time of the Doomsday book, it appears that there were three main CASE families in
England living in the south west area, Lancashire and Norfolk. Family members have been
found to have migrated between these three areas over the years.
