Hello George and Gayle -
Why yes, I believe that family lore refers to Dorset and there also seems to
be some connection to Jersey, although that one is very murky. I suspect
that there is some connection with the Cases in Nova Scotia, although I have
never heard of it -- it just seems as if it must be more than coincidence
that everyone ended up in the Chelsea/Everett area of Massachusetts! -- and
for many years there was a major exodus from Newfoundland, as the fishing
situation got worse, to the Canadian maritime provinces and New England. In
fact, although I referred to "Boston area" in my original e-mail, they
settled in Chelsea or Everett first, I believe, and later moved to Revere.
My grandparents maintained church connections in Chelsea until they died. I
still have cousins in Everett and also other cities north of Boston,
although under other last names due to marriage. Also interestingly, the
names Samuel and also "May" (as the nickname for Mabre) show up more than
once in the history. However, I don't know of any connections with the
specific Manuel or Francis Case mentioned. I wish I could be more helpful
but I guess we'll need to hope someone else can fill in the missing piece or
pieces. In the meantime, I'd love to learn more about the connection to
Dorset. I had never hoped to be able to learn anything past the appearance
of the family in "the New World" -- and it would be wonderful to be able to
take it back into England and pre-1800.
With gratitude -
Barbara

Do you have any idea which part of England your CASE ancestors came from?
The main
CASE family groups were in Dorset (and other parts of the south
west), Norfolk and Lancashire.

I am a descendant of Francis Case who emigrated from England to
Newfoundland. He then married Ann(?) from Newfoundland. That is all I
know
about them except they had at least two sons Samuel and Manuel. I
assume
that after the death of Francis both of the sons moved to Nova Scotia
bringing their mother with them. They were both shipbuilders and married
woman from the Nova Scotia area. Samuel the older brother stayed in the
Nova Scotia area but Manuel who was my great-grandfather moved down to
Massachusetts about 1882 with his wife following after the birth of their
daughter May. They lived in Chelsea and Everett. Do you think that there
is any family relation here? Have you discovered any relation with the
name
Francis? Would love to compare notes with you.
Thanks
Gayle (Case) Breska
