Hi, Marilyn. I am also descended from that Samuel, and like many others in the past few
decades I have spent a number of years trying to find solid evidence regarding his birth,
visiting local archives in KY, OH, PA and IN (I lived in KY for 21 years). I have failed
to find any birth or other records in PA, apparently because the courthouse in which they
would have been kept, in Hannastown, the county seat of Westmoreland Cty, was destroyed by
a joint force of British, Canadians and native americans on Saturday, July 13, 1782. I
keep hoping to come across a baptismal record or bible, but no luck so far. His father,
as you note, is not well documented either.
There is some misinformation on the web about this Samuel, probably because his family
moved around during that period & he was born in a temporary dwelling place. The most
common misinformation about Samuel is that his father was named WIlliam. William was
actually his uncle. While I can't prove this 100%, I have a very thorough analysis by
a professional that offers very compelling evidence (based on dwellings/Census, land
records, etc.) that his father was Nathaniel (Butler) Case. I can send you that lengthy
analysis of records if you would like. I also have many pages of notes on the Cases in KY
and OH, but they are disorganized.
Samuel moved with his Uncle William to KY in the 1780s, accompanied by the Paddock and
Paine (Payne) families, who traveled with them from Long Island, and also intermarried
with Cases several times -- they are collateral lines to search. Once they get to KY,
there are lots of records. Samuel and other Cases subsequently moved to Preble County, OH,
and then across the line to nearby Franklin County, IN.

Subject: [CASE-FAMILY] Ohio and Indiana Case
My Case line comes from Samuel Case, born 1770 died ca 1817/19 in Preble Co., Ohio, mrd
Mary Davis, she 2nd mrd Henry McMillin.Their son Nathaniel born 1808 ohio, died in
Hendricks Co., Indiana, 1865. After his death, wife Lydia moved with several of her
children to McLean Co., Illinois. I'm at a dead end on Samuel and Mary. Some say
William is his father, and Mother is Mary Pease, another says Butler Case, so far I have
no proof of either.
