Cheryl,
Both of your grandparents are listed in the Social Security Death Index
(SSDI). Go to
www.rootsweb.com . Under the heading "Search engines and
databases", click on "Social Security Death Index". Type in the first and
last names of your grandparents and click the 'Submit' button. One record
will come up for each.
At the right side of the record you will see a link that says 'SS 4
Letter'. If you click this link it will produce a letter requesting a copy
of the original SS-5, which you can print out. An SS-5 is the original
Social Security application that was filed out by your ancestor. They are a
little expensive ..... $27 each .... but they have a lot of information on
them, including date of birth, address, who they worked for at time of
application, the names of both parents and maiden name if the person is a
married woman.
Since you know so very little, this would be worth the money to give you
a start !!
Hope this helps,
Joe
