I've been looking for documentation as to the parentage of Clarissa Case
(1 Nov 1810 - 1 Feb 1840). She married Neil Beers (23 Mar 1810 - 28 Dec
1879) in Walton, Delaware, New York in 1828. My information, from a
researcher working in the 1940's, was that Clarissa's parents were Buell
Case (1787/88 - 13 Apr 1864) and Abigail Watters (1786/87 - 27 Apr 1875).
Both were born in CT, but were married (9 Feb 1809) and died in Walton. The
info on Buell/Abigail is correct as it comes from their pension applications
for the War of 1812.
According to this early researcher, Buell was the son of Ephraim Buell
Case and his 1st wife Athilred (Case). Now that I have an opportunity to
peruse everyone else's Case genealogy, I see that no one has a son named
Buell listed for Ephraim Buell Case. In fact, there appears to be an oddity
in E.B.'s family in that he is married around 1786 to Athilred but the first
child he is credited with (Orra) isn't born until 1795! Generally speaking,
people seem to agree on the birth years for E. B. and Athilred, so something
is strange that there are no children until 1795 when both of them would
have been in their 30’s. RCDuncan says “children born in Simsbury” – did he
live somewhere else for awhile?
Census records for Walton show both E.B. and Buell in residence there from
the 1800's on. I'm waiting on deed records from the FHC now. I see from a
review of Case-Family Mailing List Archives that this issue has been
discussed before (2002 was last post), but I’m hoping that perhaps someone
will have new information to add.
So - can anyone out there identify Clarissa and Buell Case for me and if
so, can you tell me what lines they come from in the Case family? Thanks so
much.
