Doris Elizabeth Champe
Doris Elizabeth Champe, 89, of Dillsboro, passed away Friday, April 23,
2010 at her daughter-in-laws home in Dillsboro. She was born on October
15, 1920 in Etowah, Tennessee, the daughter of James Gettis Case and
Sarah Elizabeth Robinson Case. On April 27, 1940 she married Alan
Champe, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter-in-law, Beverly Champe of Dillsboro, and her
grandson, Jeffrey Champe of Indianapolis. Besides her husband, she was
also preceded in death by her son, Gary Stephen Champe, in 2008; one
brother, James Richard Case; and one sister, Martha Jean Case Kenny.
Mrs. Champe graduated from Knoxville High School in Knoxville, TN and
from National Business College, also in Knoxville. Doris moved to the
Versailles area in 1960, and joined Tyson United Methodist Church. She
worked as a church secretary for five years and also church treasurer
for several years. She was employed at Purdue Extension Service in
Versailles for 27 years, and at Southeast Feeder Pig Auction for many
years as a secretary and bookkeeper.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at
Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with her pastor, Rev. James
Byerly officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be Tuesday from
12 noon until 2 p.m. Burial will be in Cliff Hill Cemetery at
Versailles. Memorials may be made to Tyson United Methodist Church in
Versailles or to Margaret Mary Hospice. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in
Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
